$7500 on the 1st one and $10k on the second one.Hopefully this one will be a keeper. And yes I got the ring back from my 1st fiancee.

I spent $1200 on the one i bought. we have been together for a year and a half, and got engaged after 1 year.

8 years ago I spent $3k. I spent all I could afford at the time since it didn't matter to her whether I spent $500 or 5 Million.

Couple years back I "upgraded" her ring and that one is worth around $12k.

We dated 3 years before getting engaged.

I'd say find an establishment that has a Gemologist on site or works there. Much easier to know what you are paying for.

I purchased my first engagement ring from a well-known Jeweler that I will not mention and paid $9750. Very nice looking ring: designer band & pedestal, 24K gold, a little over a 1 kt diamond, .5 kt baggets per side, with a nicely placed ruby. I took it to a gemologist to have it appraised for insurance purposes and found it to be worth $5800. (Turns out diamond was flawed and not same grade as displayed and baggets were loose and flawed. Only real advertised piece was the 24k gold.) I nearly *crapped in pants* and started to get infuriated until I saw my fiancee heart broken so I held back. We took the ring back and went to the chain owner's office where he taped our discussion so he wouldn't get his rear end sued.

2nd attempt: Bought the final engagement ring of a widely known maker (custom done) with a far superior main diamond, band diamonds, high grade rubys, and platinum (than the last ring) for what I thought was going to total $15K for ~ $9K (not including the extra wedding band). I had it appraised and was within $50 of marked value. So, my fiancee and I custom did my wedding ring as well.

Oh, and we dated for 10 yrs before getting married.

Bottom line: (for those of you who didn't want to read all that) Is have it appraised by a known gemologist. They will know the value of the ring. I would not rely on purchasing it from a store who says they can appraise it for you without a certified gemologist. (Check for diploma - I've seen them at nearly all gemologists' sites)

-Regards

Majority of the time the biggest cost will be the main stone if it is a diamond. And it depends on clarity, inclusion, size, etc..

475 bucks!

I gave her my grandmother's wedding ring after I had it cleaned and the stones tightened down.

She was more touched that I gave her something dear to me and part of my family than a ring out of a display case.

We dated for 2 years or so.

I started datin my wife whn I was 15/she was 14.even then I knew she was the one for me and her I . We dated until I was 21 and her 20. so we dated for 6 years.when it was time for a ring - I couldnt afford one - we already had a mortgage on a house and 200 acres of land. so when we married we used our class rings.
It was four years later on our anniversary that I finally was able to surprise her with a diamond ring - it only cost 2000.00 - but she didnt care. We lived and loved each other until 4 years ago when she past in a car accident.we were together a total of 19 years - the best years of my life. I grew up with this girl and she will always be in my heart and my thouhgts. As far as re-marring - I probably never will.

well thats my story.

Me & Vickie met Aug. 3rd 1991, and were married Sept. 19, 1991, so we didn't have much time (or $) for fancy schmancy rings...we went to a jewelry store, and SHE picked out a 3-ring set that SHE liked...

$369 for the lot...

for our 10th anniversary, we got new rings. Vick found a white-gold setting she liked, and had it filled with blue sapphires (also has 6 small diamonds)...

Less than $800

My new one was about $500...

Nice to have a woman who don't equate love with the size of the rocks on her finger!
:D
