Howdy all any recommendations as to an engine hoist and prices
I have a project for the weekend and need one

If it is a one time need... usually you can rent one from your local equipment rental place pretty cheap.

Well I need to get my engine from the machine shop, then get it to either my garage or to another shop

Think outside the box. I bought a used track & trolley from our plant for salvage money. It has an 8' travel and a dual axle trolley capable of 2 ton. I bought a Harbor Freight 1 ton chain hoist. Hung it from some reinforcement on the trusses in the attic. Make sure you know what you're doing up there though. Only pain about it is it is up down and forward and back (no side to side movement. Could do that too but it complicates and adds expense. The good news is that I don't have to store that damn hoist. Even the fold up ones would take up more space than I have to offer. I have about $200 total in my setup. Looks quite bitchin'.
