A while back I bought an 84 ttype with a blown engine. Everything had been removed except the engine block. I couldn't find anything in the archives and since I don't have the benefit of the removal sequence, I would appreciate any help on do's and don't's of installing the rebuild. Such as:
Put turbo on prior to install?
Put exhaust manifolds on prior to install or in car?
Exhaust pipe install sequence?

In general, since this is my first V6 engine install, are there any major pitfalls I can avoid? Thanks in advance for any help.

Can only tell you how I did my 85:
Turbo on after installation-but getting the drain pipe secured was a pain. The manifolds can go on before instal-RH side especially because it is a SOB to get on after-but do not hook up the crossover pipe until after-spent 3 hours cussing and throwing stuff trying to figure out why engine wasn't dropping in-crossover was hitting the fuel lines on the frame. E-mail me if you like and I can tell you every stupid mistake I made......

Great info. I would have probably done the exact opposite. Also thanks for the email offer. I may take you up on that but it could be a month before I can get to it. I also would appreciate help in identifying a couple of parts that look identical that I have no idea where they go or what they are. View at link below. The picture shows both sides. They were in the pile of stuff in the trunk and may not even go on the engine. They are heavy sheet metal. Thanks.

one of them mounts to your intake on those mounting stud things. Likre the one that is stuck in the one plate. and the turbo mounts on top of that. the other is an extra.:D

Looks like you somehow got 2 turbo mounting braces.

I just finished my car's restoration and stumbled through every little thing in the dark. I had the help of the guys on this board and now its complete thanks to all of you.

I'd be happy to assist you in any of the tasks involved in any way I can..

My turbo went on before install and I have a perfect picture to show you where exactly that metal piece you have goes on the motor. It bolts up to the intake bolts (the ones that are studs) - so you gotta make sure the bolts that are studs go in the right place.

See it ? Its a heat shield for your injectors cause that turbo gets REAL hot.

I never put my exhaust manifolds on before install but I would next time.
Just the manifolds though...not the
x-over pipe. I'd maybe go for poly motor mounts next time too....

I put the headers on each side, then the x-over pipe on....then put the up-pipe on and then bolted up the downpipe. Thing thats important here is that you remember to put the DP on before you bolt that large aluminum bracket to the front of the motor, the one that holds the A/C compressor and bolts to the head on the pass. side. If you don't...forget it...its a nightmare to squeeze in there.

Great info from all. I think I have most things sorted out now until I get to the actual install. I'm missing a ton of bolts including most of the intake manifold bolts and I still need a few parts so it may be a while. Will no doubt get in over my head before I'm done so will probably take you all up on offers of more help. Thanks again.

hang in there man, I bought my t type this past fall with the motor completely ripped apart and everything was in peices in a few boxes, best thing I did was buy a chassis shop manual that shows how it all goes together, has a lot of help getting it running right too. good luck bud!
