My late grandfathers 86 gn has been acting up and i cant seem to find the problem with it. It has been sitting since 1993 and in the past few months I got it inspected. It seems to drive fine under light acceleration, but as soon as you accelerate hard, the car stumbles and just shakes and refuses to accelerate. In the last two days, i replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs with copper ones instead of platinum. I also replaced most of the vacuum hoses throughout the engine. I should note that even after i replaced the spark plugs and wires, it still seems to have a miss (you can hear a putt...putt...putt) coming from the engine. From the research i've done, most people think the next step is the coil pack and ignition module. Also, the injectors in the vehicle are original and to the best of my knowledge have never been replaced. I already replaced the maf a while back and did the tap test at idle and noticed no change. Any response is greatly appreciated

i replaced the fuel filter LONG before the car was inspected. I figured it was an easy job to do by myself and save some money. Granted, the fuel in the tank when i first started it up was probably old. Do you think that my filter would have gone bad? And there are no trouble codes. I recently got a rich exhaust code, but when i replaced the O2 sensor yesterday, it solved the problem.

Could be bad cam sensor cap. Crank it up and up plug cam sensor and take it for a drive and see if problem goes way. I just went threw the same problem with mine.

Bad ground/loose check back of pass head for secure mounting.

Verify voltage as well

Right underneath the up pipe right where the distributor would be on a ford.

It's located where the paper towel is sticking out by the turbo.

Thanks alot. So i unpluged the sensor to see how it drives, and i believe that it drives better and the car doesnt shake anymore, but it still seems sort of slower than it should be. Do you think that replacing the cam sensor would fix it?

Yes with the cam sensor unplug the timing is fix and can not advance or retard so the car will have better power with a new cap.
