saw an ad saying that a guy has an 80's turbo buick engine for sell

i asked if he knew the exact year and he did not but could look for the numbers of the engine

heres my question...how can you tell what year it is from the numbers?

Does it have an intake on it or is it just a long block? An 86-7 Will have the last 3 numbers as 109 and will have a oil drain hole for the turbo above the timing cover in front of cylinder #2. It will also 20 bolts holding the oil pan on. Older blocks will have 14 although some late model 85's will have 20. Those are the easiest ways to tell an 86-87 which are the most desirable.
