I recently bought an ETG and need to weld a Bung for the sensor.
Where is the best place to locate this?

Thanks

I have mine in the downpipe about 3" from exhaust housing. (easy and accessable) Alot have put them opposite of the O2 sensor. You are looking for reading base lines for your cars set up.

What kind of temps do u see with it in the dp? I have always been told that u want it close to the motor.

I agree in most cases you want it in an exhaust runner. If you cann afford it and really want accuracy you want a probe in each runner because honestly your results could be totally different by runner.

EGT's are really for rough tune and when in the down pipe even worth less due to the fact you have no idea as to which cyclinder may be effecting your EGT's.

The assumption is all cylinders are being effected in the same manner, but I think most when they give an EGT reading of 1200 or so they are reading off of the manifold.

Don't remember any exact readings, idle is around 650-700, short blast to 3rd got to 1550. Don't use it really, it came with the car and I had a hole to fill in the overhead pod  Since added alky and changed timing.

Here's a c-n-p from S.Woods site:
"Most Regals seem to run at their best at Exhaust Gas Temps somewhere between 1500-1650 degs. It's up to you to determine where your car runs the best. Don't assume that the highest temp without detonation will generate the most hp. It will take several runs to determine what your car likes. This depends on probe placement as well as engine combination and fuel quality."

Where ever you put it, start your logging of temps and kr. That will be YOUR baseline. Remember all the variables that come into play when tuning. When you change something, EGT will change (however slight)
Use it in conjunction with other data logging. Knock counts and timing is the main concern to keep the parts where they belong.
