It's a popular technique with Japanese engines with small oil passages, it will not refill your seals, quite the opposite actually as it's thinner and cleans out crap. I wouldn't do it.

I was advised by two reliable sources to prep my block after machining was completed by washing down the cylinders with ATF, then laquer thinner, and finally break-in oil. I have 5 quarts of Joe Gibbs Racing break-in oil ready to go in for the initial firing, but wouldn't consider adding ATF to the motor at any time. It sounds like, from the other comments, that no one knows for sure how risky this may be to your engine. Personally, I would check with a well known machine shop that specializes in high performance engines before you dump anything in your engine. Good luck, we'll all learn something from your investigation. :)

running srtaight trans fluid is a quick way to swell seals and gaskets i have known assh**es that did this then added reg oil(20/50) just prior to selling cars. makes motor seem good but look out. just adding a qrt to oil in high mileage car and driving a mile or so will do no damage as long as you DO change it right away.it has a high detergent content but as i said won't eat stuff up like flushes will as long as you don't leave it in
