Ever wonder what stock rims weigh ??? I have the answers. ***PICS***

Just for schitzengiggles... today when I swapped my Welds onto the car, I put everything on a bathroom scale to see what it all actually weighed...

I knew the stock stock was heavy, but holy smokes... I didn't realize how bad they really were. :eek:

Here's how it added up:

Stock front rims, caps, lugnuts & 235/60 BFG's: 53.0 lbs each.

Stock rear rims, caps, lugnuts & 275/50 MT Drag radials: 60.0 lbs each.

For a total of 226.0 lbs for the entire set of stock wheels, tires, lugnuts & caps.


Weld 15x3 Pro Stars, caps, lugnuts & 165/80 radials: 28.0 lbs each.

Weld 15x7 Pro Stars, (no caps), lugnuts & 275/60 MT Drag radials: 45.0 lbs each.

For a total of 146.0 lbs for the entire set of Weld Pro Stars, tires, lugnuts and 2 front center caps.


This reflects a total of 80.0 lbs of unsprung weight removed from the car.

I wish I weighed the drums when swapped from iron to aluminum.

Yeah, there's no question the stock rims are freakin heavy. I remember the first time I picked one up.
 
I only did it because I wanted to see actual numbers.

I've always had a rough idea... but now I know EXACTLY what the weight difference is. ;)
 
Great looking pro stars BTW.. I can't wait to get a set for my WE4... Hopefully Summit has a sale soon.

80 lbs weight savings !:eek: Now I can go food ( including beer of course ) shopping first and than to the drag strip to race and still be at normal Buick weight :biggrin: .....great info !!!
 
sweet info with the real world numbers. oh and summit does have a sale on their brand wheel but i dont know how much heavier their one piece wheel is compaired to the 2 piece wheel
 
my GTA's with the 245/50/16 Fuzions weigh 34 pounds each with the lugnuts.
that's 136 pounds total- which isn't too bad for stock and when i put them on last summer, i put them on my 74 Monte in place of the old Ansen slots- rear 15X9 with 275/60/15 tires (50 pounds) and 15X7 with 235/60/15 (35 pounds)- and the car felt like it lost about 1000 pounds...
 
After putting the taller 275/60's on the rear and shorter front tires, I had to chop the springs down a bit.

This is what it looks like now... with a full tank of gas.
I might chop another half coil off the rears yet.

The real kicker is when you sell GN wheels how much they are to ship. I always tell people you don't wanna drop a GN rim on your foot.

Going for that rotating weight mass try and aluminum driveshaft next.....i nothing else I am sure it would be balanced to tighter specs than GM did.

i dont know what the the aluminum gn rims are gonna weigh by BWEAVY, but i want to keep the factory rims on my car to keep that sleeper factory look .

When is your next open house ?
I was at your place a couple years ago with my other GN... rolled in later in the day with Jimmy V and his gray T.
I may be back in PA with this GN permanently in the next several weeks.

I wouldn't mind taking a ride down to your shop again with it... and maybe go on a little shopping spree while I'm there. :D

As to above...open house is rain or shine 9:30 until 4 pm Saturday April 18th....expect to have 350-450 tagged and bagged used parts for sale, Pete will have used parts plus a special price on in stock new items. We picked that Saturday as following week is spring carlisle.

be doing some rafles...Jays GN wil be set up Castle is coming from Chicago got peopl coming from canada new england virginia....should be a good turn out.
Richard clark may make it won't know as usual until day before.

Get a chance go to turbo lounge I got a few threads there the big one centers around trunk ID numbers. Its very interesting.

Owned a few over the years...maybe 1-2 didn't leak oil.

Now I can better see how much further I need to drop the rear of the car...
This is the stance I'm trying to acheive.

One full coil off both rear springs should do it. :D
