My 86 GN recently had a rebuild before I bough it in Feb 05. (Stock as far as I can tell-ie on shift kit) When I have it on the road and at 55 mph it's at 2k rpm. At 60 it's at 2500. at 65 it's pegged at 3k and stays there if I go faster. I recall my old 86 T cruised at something like 2k on the hwy and a when I asked a friend w/ a GN he said he cruises at 2200 rpm.

We adjusted the transmission cable that's up by the throttle body and we thought it helped but on the hwy it was still the same.

What is my problem??? BTW, I scanned the car with an OTC scanner and everything is working 100% but I'm getting 10 mpg

Please advise...

****What kind of torque convertor is in the car? Lock up, non-lock up? Also, if it IS a lock up, is the convertor indeed locking up, or allowing excessive slippage? It may be that you have a bad lock up solenoid in the trans that is not allowing it to lock up, assuming it is a lock up convertor. It IS a 200r4 4 speed transmission, right?

There are other things it could be, but need more info about what was done, and replaced, as well as what convertor is in the car now. Check and make sure you have a 200r4 BRF code transmission in the car, else the rebuild may have used a non-GN valve body and other parts in the tranny which could potentially cause problems. Check and make sure you have a D5 convertor on the car if it is a stock replacement (should be stamped D5 all around the outside shell..) Just some things that come to mind off the top of my head.

Good luck

WOW. I didn't even think about that. I assume that everything is stock as everything on the car has been stock and basically untouched. (ie: stock chip, wires, maf, even had the build sheet still...)

How can I tell what kind of tranny it is from the outside? I don't touch tranny's as I'm sure I'll mess them up. (This kind of stuff I leave to the pro's)
