Just installed extender chip (open loop at idle). Wanted to reset tps and iac and noticed that scanmaster is in turbo mode so it won't read IAC. Can't get it out of turbo mode to run mode. Is this nornal?
Lap top is down so I can't use Turbo- Link

Thanks,
John

Also noticed O2 readings are steady at idle. Haven't driven it yet) Are these values accurate? If so I'm really lean.

What data stream is burnt into the extender chip?

There are 4 data streams available:

1) Stock Data Stream (S)

2) New High Speed with IAC and Cross Counts, requires Scanmaster 2.1 (W)

3) Old High Speed, works with Scanmaster 2.0 and 2.1 (Y)

4) Low Speed data stream, works with everything (Z)

I usually just get the stock data stream (S) which works just fine with my Scanmaster 2.0 and TurboLink 2.13.

John,

Check out this link for the ALDL datastream variations.

http://www.geocities.com/rad87gn/tech/smdatadef.html

It looks like your "Y" datastream doesn't show the IAC numbers. This is one of the problems when you go with the ALDL fast update code...there is give and take since the ALDL stream can only move so much data. If you go with fast update you lose some of the other data.

Turbolink uses the ALDL data, so that really won't work either. Unless you get TurboBob or Ramchargers to burn you a new chip. I use Turbolink too, but I think DirectScan will read the IAC with the "fast code" chip since it uses raw data instead of the ALDL port.

Good Luck,
John

John,
Got my laptop running, Iac does not show up on Turbo-link. Funny thing I recorded data on turbo-link before i switched chips (only at Idle). Then I recorded with the extender also only at idle,in open loop. On turbo-link it shows that my tcc and p/s switch are activated,
when on the old chip they wern't.
Also my IAC was at 14 in park at idle before I switched chips. Did I lose that setting when I reset the computer? If not I'm not going to worry about the IAC. Just the tcc and p/s switch are activated.

Time to get some beer. Back in a little while

John

If your TPS and IAC were OK before the extender chip change everything should be just fine. I wouldn't think the extender chip would change much of that....even in open loop.

I wouldn't worry about the TPS/IAC settings at idle.

What you're seeing with the TCC and P/S being activated is probably just because of the "Y" data stream. Turbolink still thinks the ALDL is sending it data in a certain (serial) order....the Y data stream has some things missing in order to get a quicker update on the O2 millivolts and KR.

I really doubt if the TCC is locked at idle! The only way you'll really get any info off of TurboLink now is to switch the chip to an Extender with the stock data stream. You could update your TurboLink to the new version 3.0 which will work with the fast update codes.

The Scanmaster data will be OK, but you'll just be missing some things....like the IAC numbers.

Hope that makes sense.

John

John,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not going to worry about the IAC . I thought it would remain the same. But I'm running Tubrbo-link 3.0 I also thought it had the fast update in it?

Have to do a little more checking.

Thanks
John
