I've looked at some of the external waste gates and I can see the benefits, but the way they work is my biggest question. Do they operate off presure from boost or vacum? Is there one that works from just boost/vac presure without having to use the puter or is a puter required? Any info would be a big help and links would be great.

My TiAL works off a manual boost controller. Any external gate can work without a computer, unless you use a electronic boost controller. hope this helps

Kinda? I'm trying to decide if the benefits outweigh the cost. I haven't seen any problems with either other than the stock has a habit of boost creep sometimes and I want my engine to hold up. Can an after market unit be better than the factory waste gate accuator set up?

Most definatly. TiALs are a very good wastegate. You will have to get a tube welded from the PS header to the Gate, then a tube from the Gate back into the downpipe.

and then run a line from the intake to the waste gate? It can't be that simple could it?

Thanks for the link. It makes it a little easier to understand. I haven't done it yet but I think that's the way I'm going to go.

the stock has a habit of boost creep sometimes and "I want my engine to hold up."

You might want to look at the AMS 500 electronic boost controller. It will give you pin point accuracy. It is a little pricy ($450.) or so, but so is a broken motor. Call Cal Hartline and he can give you all the info you need to know about boost control. You can google AMS500 also to get a heads up on this controller before you call him. :)
