Factory tach pegged at idle

Car has been sitting in pieces for 10 years. Got it up and running. As soon as I start it, the LED tach goes all the way up and stays there. Is it a problem with the gauge or a sensor.

Turbotimmer, pocono Gene here. Yea got to unplug it and send it of to caspers,i think its around 95.00. Kinda hard to get it unplugged, might have to take the 2 bolts out of steering column and let it drop to get your hand in there.

Isn't there 2 plug connectors on the drivers side of the engine by the alternator that look like they should be plugged in but when they are they do this very thing?

NO. When you do that the tach always reads "0"

Oh okay, been so long I couldn't remember. Just knew something happened with that tach. Thanks for the correction.
