FAST-Car idles better with the a/c on?!

Working on the pos today, and turned the a/c on, and the idle got incredibly smooth. Its not bad normally, but it hunts about 100 rpm here and there, nothing I worry about. But with the a/c on, its amazingly smooth. It looks like somebody frickin' glued the tach needle in place, and felt good too! Is this weird?

Essentially the AC is putting an additional load on the engine. What does that mean? Not exactly sure.

I am guessing that you have too much timing at idle. I think it's possible that your mixture is off, maybe the extra load can be dampening a lean surge or something.

Just guessing...
