When I was a kid growing up, me and a few friends would from time to time go down to AAR (Dan Gurney's shop), in Santa Ana, to see if there was anything to be seen thur the fences. Dan, and Swede were like living legends to the kids of the area. Time just stood still the day Swede died. There were always rumors about one of *the cars*, being tested on the SD Freeway. Was a fun time to grow up. During the Presidential Elections, there were always hundreds of *Gurney for President* bumper stickers.

<sigh>.......

Holy S.h.i.t bigfoot:eek:

Wow there have been a bunch more recent nascar deaths. Wonder if its that german/european safety design?

Lot of those were shots from Indy. I grew up there and all those wrecks, Tony Bettenhausen, Eddie Sachs, and the rest all were as bad as Kennedy being shot, in our neighborhood. My dad was on duty at the track and saw Tony get wrapped up in his last wreck. One of the first times I could remember him crying. All this from a guy that spent WW2 in the UDT.
Thanks for the reality check Travis.

I cannot even imagine the feeling trying to get his friend out of a burning car and not being able to do anything but watch it burn:confused: :(
