Has anyone ever thought of putting a new emblem from the 80's still NIB against the ones being sold today??
NOS are usually parts that weren't up to OEM specs and should be treated as such. When a fender or some other part on the assembly line wasn't up to par it went into stock as a replacement part that instead of being destroyed was sent to dealers to use for repair down the road when needed. Not all NOS parts are so designated but that is where the majority of the so called second hand {NOS} parts come from.
Also maybe some are comparing used ones that saw it's fair share of sunlight and some color fading has taken place.
Also like said above different production runs and various manufacturers will produce different results
