I have had my car for three months and finally got a run today. It was 10 min to five and this kid I hired a couple of weeks ago sees my car sitting outside with the Ttops out, and starts talkin smack. "So are you ready to run me yet?" and "what time do you get out?" and so forth. I thought he was joking and told him to wait 15 minutes and we would run.
Well I locked the Whse and get ready to leave and there he is with his car idling next to mine. He has a mid 90's Thunderbird with a 5.0HO and a K/N, which is in pretty decent shape, tinted windows, etc.
I was a little nervous since this is my first race with anyone and I was in full street trim, 16psi, no alky, and RA93 chip. I knew T-birds werent that fast but hey, its a 302.
So he follows me to this country road and we line up. I call it on three, I wasnt looking at my boost gauge but I probably had 2psi. I see him power braking and his one tire is trying to break loose (peg leg) and I call three.
After about 20 feet it wasnt even close. I thought he had let off the gas for some reason. I only went to about 60mph and stopped. We ran again, I let him call it. Never, ever in my dreams did I think I would smoke him that bad. Up to about 90mph I had WAY too many car lengths to count. Seriously I felt bad for the guy. He pulled up and said "Man, that thing's pretty fast" and he gunned it, when I hit it my front and his rear were even, and I walked right by him again, this time I reached down and cranked up Rob Zombie as I passed him (it was on pause)
Man I love this car, I am hooking the alky back up tonight:D

Nice kill:D We sometimes forget how quick these cars are relatively stock. That guy had no business racing you.:p

Good Kill. Cracks me up when someone with a standard issue V8 thinks he even has a chance. Since I was 18 when these cars were built, I always thought that EVERYBODY knew about them. Man was I wrong, they have no clue. With the exception of lt1's, ls1's, etc, you won't find many cars that can run with you on the street as it sits.

Good luck with the alky install. Happy boosting! :D

I had a '86 Thunderbird with the 302. I loved that car. But it wouldn't stand a chance against an intercooled TR or even a stock 5.0 Mustang.

My friend used to have a '95 Thunderbird (4.6 liter) that he thought was pretty fast....until I toyed with him in my GN. It was so slow, my other friend got cocky and offered to run him with his wife's Escort. Sadly, the T-bird was only a little quicker.

Needless to say, the Thunderbird was sold soon after and replaced with an SVO.

Maybe it is the AOD and weight that make them so slow. I don't know.
