Managed to get some track time in at our local 1/8th mile (no 1/4 mile tracks around here), and had what I consider to be a pretty good day.
The ground work: I run in pure street trim, that is to say, 93 octane fuel, no additives, no alky, real street radials (Firestone Firehawks) not DOT sticky's.
My present equipment and state of tune allows me to run 20# of boost on 93 octane (keeping the timing down).
Anyway, started the day with a medeocre 8.50 @ 82.69, 2.04 60'.
took a look at the direct scan file launched harder-8.30 @ 83.37, 1.95.
Dedided I was running too fat, and started taking fuel out of the Translator by 1 click over the next couple runs. 4% (two clicks) was a lean as I could run and still keep detonation below 1°. By launching harder and running leaner (O2's now down to what the car likes, 760's) the fifth run yielded a:
8.10 @ 85.71, 1.90.
Time to really try and launch hard, run 6 came out as 8.08 @ 85.79, 1.88
I had noticed that these tires reacted with the best 60's times when I really "burned the hides" off of them. Big smoky burnouts yielded the best short times and ET's. Not the usual fare for a street tire but the Firehawks felt soft and sticky when back in the pits after a real good burnout.
The last run of the day was the best. Didn't get my 7 second run but got close enough.
8.02 @ 85.88, 1.83 60'
If my calculations are right, 8.0's equates to something in the area of a 12.5 @ 110 quarter. I was not disapointed considering the timing, fuel, tires I was running. Pretty happy actually.
