I was trying to build my own transmission just for the thrill of it and to learn more about how the system works. Using my ATSG manual got everything back together right but during the begining of the build after I put the rear planetary and forward/direct assembly together I could only turn the rear output shaft in one direction without resistance ( counter clockwise) it will not turn in the opposite direction without force. I can't see anything that I did wrong. I have removed the rear unit to recheck everything and I don't see it can someone help me out. I don't no if it makes any difference but I'm using Blue Plates and I Stacked them against the steels with trans lube after soaking in trans fluid.

this is normal.rotating it backwards causes the clutches to pull through the hub creating resistance.never use blue plates in the low reverse clutch.this is not a clutch that carries an upshifting torque load therefore it is not necessary to use such a friction.also the low clutch is only on in manual low and reverse so anytime other than this those clutches must be carried along with the rear planetary carrier robbing horsepower as the lining on the blue plate causes more frictional drag and horsepower loss verses a paper friction in this location.please note however that this loss is only up to about 5000 rpms so it is definately a matter of concern in a motor operating below or up to this speed.
