Thanks To Hartline performance, Southeastern Turbo and a few others I finally got all the bugs work out.
I Never work on a GN Before and was brought this in a million pieces. Need lest to say I had my work cut out for me. The guy had bought a bunch of parts and just wanted the thing put together. It was in a shop in Cal. they had taken apart the whole car over a year ago. I don't know what the situation was but they never put it together.
I've done other work for the guy and he ask if I would work on his GN. I told him that I never worked on one but I am sure I could figure things out. He never told me it was apart. Well Needless to say I thought the thing was running and I would just kinda look over things. He called me when he was on the way back from Cal with the car and ask if he could drop the car off. I said sure. 2 days later ( I'm in Hammond La.) he shows up with this thing on the back of a trailer appart in a million pieces. No brakes, suspension all apar t no engine trans, a 9" loosely put under the car, the body looking pretty bad. At that point I knew I didn't ask enought question before I agreed to work on this.
Anyway, Many hours of research, chasing parts, finding missing parts, getting rid of parts he did not need, Taking apart and redoing stuff and calling guys that had been down this road many times its finally all worked out. I must say its a most impressive ride. The nittos just cannot handle the power. This is a Run down of what was done.
Engine: 3.8 girdle block .020, J&E pistons, Harline 214/214 billet Roller Set up, Champion Race Ported Heads, T&D Shaft Rockers, Ported Intake Manifold, Kenny Bell 70mm Throttle body and plunem, T72 Turbonetics B&B turbo, Turbonetics Racegate, Eastern performance Front mounted intercooler, Atr Headers, ATR down Pipe, Hooker exhaust, Ramchargers Duel fans, Becool radatior, Earls Oil cooler, Earls Trans Cooler.
Fuel: Double pumper, AN-10 feed line, Kenny Bell regulator, 72lb injectors, Fast computer,
Trans: Performance Trans 200r4, Convertor Yank 3800 lock up,
Rear: 9" strange center, 3.55, strange axles
Hotchkis adjustable control arms rear, Giant rear sway bar, Air bags rear, lower spring front, hotchkis front sway bar, Kyb shock at all four corners.
Wheels and tires: Simmons 17" by 9.5 rear and 8.5 front Nitto front and rear drags.
Just finished painting Black. It looks killer

Any one want to guess what this thing should run. Or if you have some thing comparable let me know what it runs and dynoed

Thanks to all

Darren Blanchard

I think you forgot something. You better get a roll cage in that thing.
That car should capable of hitting low 10's/high nines on a good day,if everything is working right.:D
We've got a few guys on this board that are doing it already.:)

I have some but they were take inside my shop so they are not real clear. I don't know how to post them.

Yes I talk to him about a cage and doesn't want to upset the street stock look. HA! If you look at the inside of this thing it looks like a space ship. I installed a innovative boost controller, a big auto meter ultra recall tack w/shift light, auto meter ultra egt, water temp, oil pressure, and boost guage.

Yes I think it could possable run that fast but It will need slicks and different shocks and springs also loose the front sway bar.
Maybe go with some fiberglass bumpers and hood.

Thanks Darren

That car should dyno at around 600 RWHP if you have the balls to turn the boost up to 28-30psi. It will run mid 10's on a bad day and low 10's with your 60's in the low 1.4's hopefully 1.3's but your trans may not like it for too long. Let me know if I can help any.

Ted

if he's running a t-72 at 20+30 psi shouldnt he be turning more than just 600rwhp??i Mean i saw a T60-1 turn 624 RWHP at 28 psi.

No. I think my ESTIMATE is on the conservative side considering the Eastern front mount intercooler and Champion ported iron heads. :)

It has Aluminum heads. I don't know what it will do but we will wait till we have 1000 miles on it before we dyno it. I can tell you guys I have built ZR1s Ls1s, Small Blocks and Big Blocks and I have never felt so tame and then so brutal as this little V6.

From the push I feel when on just 15 psi of boost it feel like its in the 11's I can't imagine what it will feel like at 25 or 28 psi.

so now you see what all the fuss is about with these cars huh...:D

I have less motor in my car an in the high tens now at 23# boost so what feels like 11's will probly really go 10's....these cars are weird I have had 10 second cars before and they felt alot faster but next time you hit it look out the side window and notice things are going by alot faster than it feels like its going ;)

Should the easter intercooler be change? If so what should I go with?

Cal You can chime in if your there.

Thanks Darren

ESP made over 700 hp with their "terror mill" a stock block build-up similar to this one ,and it used that same intercooler. It is just as good as any other. If guys can run 10s with stretch stock location intercoolers, the eastern will do it too.Usually the ones talking about this or that don't even use or have the parts they are putting down.Nor do they make that kind of power.I wouldn't worry about it.I use it and it works fine. The only thing I would change is the pipe size to 3" so it would look better going into my 70mm tb.

i wonder what size A/R turbine housing that thing is running i would love to see it with a .82 or larger.....:) scary fast

Man that sounds like one sweet machine, no doubt about it. I'm jealous:D I guess the only thing that sticks out to me is the rear end. Any particular reason you went with a 3.55 as opposed to a 3.42? Just curious. Either way man, sounds like you did a nice job and someone put some serious cheese into that thing.

I did not choose the gear. When He brought the car to me it was allready in there. He was already spending so much replacing parts that were not right I didn't see him spending more on that now.

I certainly understand that. Once again nice job, I would love to see some pics. And the dyno numbers when you get them:D

Ok someone that is technical explain to me the A/R, .82 sizes and what effect the small or larger housings have. My imagination tells me the bigger housing and exhaust wheel the slower it will respond but the more pressure it is able to put through the shaft to the intake side of the turbo hence high psi capabilitys. The smaller the exhaust housing and wheel the faster it will spool but not capable of putting out as much psi in the same application. Maybe someone can give me the low down.

Well,you're sorta half right.
The smaller A/R housings put more squeeze on the exhaust, creating more turbine speed.
However, they also create more backpressure in the housing and exhaust, ultimately choking off flow through the cylinder and hence H/P.
A higher A/R housing will put less squeeze on the exhaust and flow more in the top end,but will ultimately create less boost.
This assumes the same exhaust and compressor wheels in both cases.
You have to remember that boost is what's left over in the manifold after the cylinders draw in their air[a witicism of FUBAR,he's right:) .
