Hello,
I`m a little concerned, For the first time today the retard numbers on the scanmaster moved from the normal 0.0 to 0.7 - 3.2 and as high as 5.3, This has never happened before today. Is this normal?.. Or should I be concerned?. What if anything is wrong??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :(

sumptin's wrong. Bad gas, exhaust leak, vaccume leak, clogged fuel filter, clogged injectors, fuel pump taking a dump, loose converter bolts, downpipe hitting on somthing.

Dump a can of xylene in the tank and see if it continues. If it goes away its real knock.

Thanks for your reply,
If that dosen`t work where should I look first?.

Take a look at all the vacuume hoses and see if they are good. Make sure the one to the FPR is good, as well as the one to the charcoal cannister.

Look and see if the DS header is cracked. I don't exactly understand this one but people say they get knock with a header crack.

How old is your fuel filter? Its a $5 part and takes about 10 minutes to change. It should be changed about 1 time a year.

I see that you have a new fuel pump, you need to check the voltage at the pump to make sure your getting the voltage you need. I had a hotwire kit, and started getting the same symptoms as you. It ended up the my hotwire got pinched, but only when I got on it and the body rocked back and pinched it.

Its probably not the converter bolts, but it does happen.

Look and see if your down pipe is hitting anything.

You also might want to check and see if your motor mount is cracked. Mine cracked allowing things to bang around and cause false knock. $25 later and that was fixed.

Do your visual inspections first. If you don't see anything dump in a can of xylene. If it goes away, it could have just been a bad tank of gas.

Don't get on it too much until you have solved this. 5* at 16 lbs of boost isn't goint to blow it, but that is the point at which you want to get out of it.

Thanx for your help BLACK6PACK, I`ll try that, And I will post my findings.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the fuel filter, Try that first before you spend alot of money.

Start with the basics including the ones mentioned..

First off, has it recently got much cooler where you are? If so, the motor could be seeing much more air and in turn needs more fuel. You may be able to tune it out with a simple fuel pressure adjustment.

HTH..

Found the problem

It turns out that it`s a crack in the DS header, It seems that maybe it was welded before. But that is the reason why my retard numbers were acting up. Now to fix, I don`t know if I should get it re-welded or just replace the whole thing.

Thanx again BLACK6PACK, and to all that helped.

There are certain people out there who know how to fix those exhaust manifolds. All of the factory ones crack eventually. Do a search and you will find someone that knows how to fix them the right way. It involves bracing or gusseting when re welding, I think.

Note:

I had the loose convertor bolts happen to me.

Southeast Turbo has a bunch of DS headers for sale with core. They are a paying advertiser here. Talk to Dana.
