Does anyone know what this means? The SES light flickers all the time, and my SM isn't reading. Just like it's not getting info. The car will idle, but very rough, and it won't rev up.

Thanks,

Paul

bad/unseated chip or bad ecm

check for bent pins

you are running in default mode/no ecm

Thanks for the reply. I was changing chips, so I hope it's just a bent pin. I thought maybe it was my 02, just changed it, and no avail. I'll check for pins right now, Thanks again,

Paul

You were right, I found a pin in the chip bent back. Would this cause the ECM to go bad? I tried different chips with the same results, running default mode.
Thanks,

Paul

shouldn't hurt the ecm....once you get the chip seated, all should be good....remember to disconnect the power from the ecm when changing the chip to reset

Hmm... well, I changed the chips, and still gettting the default mode. Maybe it was time for a new ECM alltogether:eek: I tried looking at the recieving side(ECM side) and it looks ok. I also disconnect the orange wire before removing the chip. Any other thoughts? Thanks for you help, and fast replys. Trying to get ready for a race this weekend, and if it ain't one thing, it's another:D Was going to change out my convertor, but now I guess I'll be lucky to get it running in time:D

well, make sure the cable connections on top of the ecm are clean...Hawaii being what it is, you may have corrosion on one or more connections.....clean everything up..including the chip socket...if you are running Direct Scan, I would look at all those also

good luck!

(your stuff corrodes away, ours just melts....)

I'm going to pull the ECM and clean all the connections. Yep, the salt air is killers:eek: Thanks for your help. I'll let you know what's the scoops.
Aloha,

Paul

Check the black wire that is grounded to the fire wall almost dead center. That is the ground for the ECM.Make sure you got a good rust free connection. Mike

You know..

There is a slot in the eprom socket
and a little slot in the chip carrier, are they lined up? it *might* be in backwards?

but if you can, try borrowing and ecm from a buddy to test.

Not really, the chip carrier CANT be installed backwards. The different width legs on the two sides of the carrier prevent that from happening.

I was unaware of that! Then I would definitely say try to use a friends ecm to verify the chips aren't just bad..

if you think the ground may be bad, then just tap the ground pin with a continuity tester and put the other lead on a good ground and it should show good, other than that, ..?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It was the ECM. Not sure if the chip blew it or it was a coincidence, but I didn't install that chip in the borrowed ECM. I'll get with the burner and see if he can test it. Thanks again,

Aloha, Paul
