I know it's a Ferd, but I believe there's more real guru's here than even on the Explorer enthusiast web sites.

The wifes 98 Exploder has an antenna problem. It goes up fine, and it goes down fine. The problem is that the motor continues to grind after the antenna reaches the top of it's travel. It runs for 20 or 30 seconds.

Anyone know what makes the motor stop running? Isn't there some kind of switch that recognizes the added load and turns off? If so, do you expect that I can replace this part separate from the motor?

TIA

The Antenna mast stops the motor from running because it sees the extra load on the motor so it kicks it off. There is a relay, but it is part of the motor. The Antenna mast puts more of a load than normal on the motor and the relay shuts off. Sounds like the motor is bad, cheap way out take the mast out and make sure there are no stripped teeth or the motor will continue to run. ;)

Even better, I'll disconnect the power with the antenna up!:D
