Four Sold GNs in a Row on Mecum Today

I will never understand why people think that GN's should never increase in value. It's these people that keep the value down. Come on here talking shit about real market value. When a 63 Impala brings 50k+ is that real market value? Those cars are hunks of junk but they bring big money. It makes no frickin sense.

What makes even less sense is a stock ass GN will bring more that a nicely modded one with a built motor. Just goes to show that money does not = brains. Specially when a guy bought the stock GN just to mod it anyway....

I'm kinda hoping these comments weren't directed towards me. I still love Turbo Buicks but get sick of all the overpriced GN's that are 1/2 a step away from being parts cars I see on CL. As far as the AutoTrader goes if you do a nationwide search you might find 1 or 2 with an asking price below $20k. I'd like to see more people who are car enthusiasts buy our cars than collectors who are just going to put them on display in their climate controlled warehouse. If the price for an entry level driver quality GN becomes too high the enthusiast pool will continue to shrink.

Not sure if this is the case with other cars. But with the TR's......the unmolested, unmodified, and very low mile examples will get the big bucks so to speak. Without even seeing those cheaper bought GN's I assumed they had to be a little rough with miles & or modified. The GN that went for 41k &15K miles......now thats strong money!

I'm not a fan of low mileage examples of any vehicle especially a aged example. If cars were meant to be art work they should be hanging on a wall. I'm gonna beat the shit out of my GN while having a huge grin. It's like a vagina that never gets used, what's the use of keeping it around?

I agree , strong money , the seller was very lucky IMO . A mint example with 15k orig miles , is a $28-33k car . This is one of those auction cases were it brought more than it would if for sale here/Ebay/Carsonline/Hemmings/etc . If you have a 15k mile GN , try and ask $40k plus and see how long it takes to actually sell , if at all . One can look at this 2 ways though , the seller got $37,720 , and the buyer paid $44,280 !!!!!! Check Ebay as of now , they are all going to come out of the wood work with high price tags !!!!!

I went to the Mecum auction here in Louisville last fall.

Most of the cars being offered were total junk. It was no better than the Clark County outdoor auction we have every Wednesday night. It was polished turds being put in front of a TV camera. And the people bidding knew the cars were junk. Nothing was selling.

I have a Stage motor car, I don't know if I'd call it pristine but it's a nice example. I can post pics and you can be the judge. Although I have way too much in it I know I couldn't get $40 k for it. FWIW with few exceptions cars are a poor investment. That's reality.

I agree that these looked rough and the prices reflected that. Was hoping to see some nice T's go through also as a comparison for everyone that says T's (or "Regals with turbos" as they have been called lately) are worthless.

What an auction needs is 2 or 3 buyers that just gotta have it, for any particular car to really ring the bell. That's why it's hilarious like the recent GN ebay listing where the seller clearly states the price reflects the most recent Kissimmee sales. The only thing an auction is a reflection of is the level of stupidity or deep pockets the buyer has. Sometimes, both. Why else do they serve beer or alcohol...a fool and his money are soon departed. My estimate, 99.9℅ of sales don't reflect true market value.

I agree. Was referring to the recent facebook debate on Turbo T only referring to a WE4 and anything else is "just a regal with a turbo". The T's don't get enough respect.

I'm sure all of TRs that were at this auction were trying to cash in on the press of 547, and for one one guy it paid off ($41k GN). I have been to car auctions in person and can tell you the lighting and camera can play tricks on how the cars look on TV. I recently went to Barrett-Jackson and was amazed at how shitty the cars were and how some of them were even misrepresented and yet BJ did nothing about it. So basically I came to the conclusion that TV car auctions are nothing more than a glorified used car lot. A friend of mine was at the mecum kissimmee auction and is familiar with TRs and he told me the 4 GNs that sold for 10-15k were junk and were in rough shape. There was also a TR advertised as a "WE4" but had several questionable things, like the GN Interior, wut?!

Having had my car for 19 years now, I am all about it going up because there is a price I'd be willing to let it go for. Kind of ready for something different, but at the same time still love the car enough not to give it away.
