Yes the one inside the car is electric. Mine is from Autometer. You put the sending unit on the fuel rail and run the wires to the gauge inside the car. I had one on the hood but I think it looks cleaner with it inside the car. It is pricey though, like around $250. Check Summit or Jegs.

I've heard urban legends that the electro FP gauges are not quite as responsive or as accurate as the mechanicals.
Wondering if you ever had a chance to compare or lay witness to such a thing?

Mine seems pretty accurate. I mostly look at it at idle, and also when I'm in boost. It already has helped me diagnose a bad fuel pump. I probably wouldn't know if it is off a pound or two.
