Ok, Ive been having some wierd fuel problems the last month or so, and i finally decided to check into it this weekend. I noticed with my kirban guage, if i set the FP to 43 static, i would be getting knock, with 94 octane, alchy and boost set at 20 with a JC alchy chip. So i thought no biggie, must be my DP is hitting somewhere, i finally fixed that, was hitting the frame. Took the car out and was still getting knock, and my egts were in the high 1700 range. So i upped the fuel, and i noticed that the knock was slowly going away, till i finally reached 60psi!!!!! static. Now its running great with no knock and my egts are about 1590-1620. So im thinking it was a bad fp guage, so i put on a known good one, and it read the same. So now im confused, i have blue tops, and at 60psi, i would think the car wouldent run at all. I have no idea what could be the problem after the fp guage, what would a bad regulator do?, would it cause it the guage to read that high? Im stuck...
Thanks
Kevin

no... check the hose that hooks to the top of the regulator and see that it has vacuum on it at idle

other than that hook a presure gauge up that you can put under your wiper blade and take it for a ride and make sure the fuel pressure goes up 1# per # of boost.

Ok, i know i have vacuum at idle. Checked that this weekend. When i goto hook up a guage to see if it raises, and it dosnt for some reason, what are my options. If it raises like normal 1lb per 1lb of boost, what else can it be.
Thanks again
Kevin

clogged fuel filter or pump going south are options but need to know if pressure is rising and holding.

It seems that i got my problem fixed, i changed the Filter and everything is ok now. The only thing i noticed is that my guage is jumpy, but it is rising and staying at 64lbs. Just jumps around alot. Is this normal or is there something else i should look into? My dads just starting doing this also, he has a KB hood mounted guage, car runs great just the jumpy needle.
Thanks
Kevin

What do you mean by "jumpy?" Like, it jumps around while the engine is at idle, or it jumps around while driving and boosting the car???

If it's jumping around at idle then I'd say there something wierd going on there. The latter is the normal driving conditions of the car.

Its jumpy while boosting. Moving all over the place, probably just the guage. But id thought id ask to be sure.

I think REDS HOT AIR was on to something when he said check the regulator to see if its getting the correct vacuum. Two problems could exist to me with this. First, if you have a vacuum leak somewhere near the regulator, it would prohibit the regulator from functioning properly. Second, the regulator diaphram itself could be bad.

It is not normal for the fuel pressure to bounce around while at a consistant boost level, it should stay constant until you let off the throttle, whether its at 65 psi or 55 psi, it doesn't matter.

If you have any friends with known good regulators, I'd say swap it and see if your problem goes away. It's cheaper than just spending the money blindly. :D

I agree, but couldent it be the guage and the way its mounted on the window, a cheap guage??. I have a stock regulator i can try, just to be sure.

As far a vacuum leaks, i thought i checked everything b4, but i can double check it again,

Thanks for the help
Kevin

Nah, hell, I have a very cheap gauge setup on a stainless hose that only cost me 30 bones.

All things considered, though, I think if you have reservations on the gauge as well, swap it out first since it's easier than swapping the regulator and that'll tell you if the gauge is out or not.

Well i just did the FP test, and i got about 3/4 gallon in about 60 seconds. Is this normal or too little?
Thanks
Kevin
