I finally started the car after months of slowly putting the top of the motor back together. The car started and ran fine but I had to turn it off because the fuel pump wont shut off!!!! I figured it would take a while to build pressure back up, but how long should it take????????

I meant to say that the fuel pump keeps running even with the engine off. As long as the ignition is on, its running. I figured after a minute or so it should have cut off???

or a bad ECM, like i had.

or the oil pressure switch or wiring connector at it is shorting the pump feed to the 12v at that switch
and fyi the pump doesnt run on keyon (engine off) to a set pressure ..it just runs a preset time by the ecm commanding the fuel pressure relay ..then it's supposed to shut off and wont start pump up again until a minimum rpm is reached (usually 400) or until the oil presure switch sees over 4psi of oil pressure (assuming you still have the oil switch and its functional)

yep, it was a bad oil pressure switch connector. It only had some black putty around the spade lugs. Cleaned them up and inserted them correctly, problem solved. Now I need to replace the metal water line on the intake and I should be able to finally drive it again.
