Gremlins of a 84 GN
Where do I start---
First the history--
I seen the car about 2 years ago on a used car lot. I was looking for regal parts. (another project 455). He told me that it was a grand national . Some kid took it out for a run and brought it back with a spun bearing. The car had a 87 set up in it at the time. the dealer did not know any thing about gn's and had a 84 motor rebuilt, knowing it was a 84. Well they rebuilt the engine and he states that they could not get it to throttle up, only idle. He took it to three different electrical shops and no-one could get it to run right. He was ticked and let it sit for the last year or so. I went back later and found that it was still for sell ( he just wanted to get rid of the thing). It was flatbeded to MY house.
Now I tried to start it. nothing, no click no nothing. I checked every thing. Drop the starter and hot wire it no dice, Bad starter- no problem changed the starter. Try to start it up - it turns over but no start. Checked the fuses, and spark. Have spark!!!
Checked fuel - no pressure. The fuel pump is straight wired from the fuse box. I have power to the pump. (No pump noice). I dropped the tank and tested the pump. no good. I run up to NAPA and grab a stock replacement. put it back together and now I have positive fuel pressure to the regulator. I also replaced the regulator while I was there. THe car still would not start so I checked the code manually, 12 12 12 12 12 12 only ( no codes) crap! Checked the voltage to the ecm checks out Okay, checked the ignition module ( still the 87 set-up) the B post for the crank sensor would not read voltage!!! so the possibility is ignition module Right! I am getting another ignition module and ecm.
But while i was checking out the car I would check the car cranking it up, JUST BY CHANCE IT MIGHT DECIDE TO START. then I wouldn't hear the pump. No pump- have power but no pump -- I drop the tank and pull the pump and its bad even hot wiring it no run, return to NAPA. No others in town SOOOOOOOO! Now I am changing to the Walbro pump the 340 or the 307 I don't know which, and I will re-run the hot wire kit.
After I get fuel- spark-and Ignition to checks out I will know more then. I have been following all the other No-start promlems on this board but Each car seems to have a innate GREMLIN within it steel frame. Just a little history!
