I was wondering if (with supporting mods) I were to add a larger turbo and alky inj. How much of a power increase would there be? I would already have a HP fuel pump, 42lb. inj.,TT chip, headers, test pipe,CAI, hotwire kit. Thanks guys!

Quick guess.....tuned right...gain about 150 ponies or so. Tuned wrong.....lose about 25 or so.

I went from a PTE51 to a TA62 same boost 23 on pump and alky. same timing and 42lb. Bosch injectors, and picked up 35 HP.

Different days on the dyno. however.

I think most of the power you will get will be from the alky. you don't need the turbo really. 18lb.s boost on pump gas to 25 or so street tune with higher timing, should net you about 100 HP alone with the 49.

Doing both won't hurt if you have them.

Except the 62's made a lot of air noises on my car, I always thought the fins were gonna blow off it.

Just my .02.

same upgrade

....no times yet but the butt dyno is feeling the extra G's when in boost. I went from a TA-49 and added GN-1 heads, roller cam, 60's, 9.5" vig converter and a TE-62 with alky.

Your 62 is enough turbo to run low 11's to upper 10's with supporting mods.

Around 135 hp at 27-29psi while replacing a lot of the fuel required with the alky injection. You should be able to pick up about 10 mph over the stock turbo and same race weight. Thats assuming the intercooler/exhaust restrictions are removed.

The TA49 will work fine with the stock torque converter and get you 25-27 psi. boost on pump and alky. and is a good place to start. You should be able to hit about 114mph on a stocker full weight car too.

You will need a 3000-3400 stall with the 62 and 3200 being about optimum for it. That's what I used with my TA62.

More $$$ but if you have to rebuild the tranny now is a good time to install a well made converter if you are going to do it.

So it all depends upon your ultimate goals.

Alchy is worth at least 1 second vs Pump gas with any turbo.

A TA49 is worth about .4-.5 seconds over a stock turbo.

It should be worth more than that if pushed to the limit. Its been 10.80 and a lot of low 11's. The stocker has been mid 11's on a few cars and usually not past 11.80's.

I know I got one and that the Ta49 is probably the most popular GN turbo of all time, but turbo's are better now and IMO, there is no need to get anything smaller than a PTE61 for our cars. Hell, if the DSM's roll with these on a 2.0L then we can do it just fine.

Some kind of PTE61 and alky around 23psi would make you wish you had better brakes. ;)
