Evertime I drive my car and I come to a red light or just idling all I smell are gas fumes. What could cause this, where should I start looking. The car does have a charcoal canister. Thanks Carlos

Hey Carlos,
My car had the same problem there was a little gas leak coming from hose that goes to the fuel filter. However I didn't figure that out for a while. Eventually it got really bad so I looked under the car again and gas was spraying everywhere. Turns out the hose was old and finally wore through.

Thanks for the reply. Ill check that out tommarrow morning. Any other suggestions. thanks Carlos

Check the area in the trunk that is the rear shelf-it's the shelf under the speakers. If you have carpet you might want to peel it back on the passenger side shelf and check for fuel. When the body bushings go bad or if those areas rust, then the body sits too close to the frame. My fuel line actually wore a hole through the trunk floor and it was pissing fuel into the trunk for a few days till I caught it. Just a thought.

There are rubber hoses that connect the hard lines at two points in the fuel system. One point is above the rear axle on the passenger side. There is a silver metal shield that protects the hoses from the exhaust. The other point is in front of the motor down by the crank pully. I've had both sets of hoses go bad.

The other thing to look at is the vac. hoses to the charcoal cannister.
