If each state sets its requirements, how can you create only one blend? Doh!

Hey can I chime in? I don't see a problem with American companies making money. I also don't see a major problem with gasoline prices either. Even at $2.00/gal. It is relatively cheap compared to most countries.

I also look at it another way. If the prices remain high people will not be able to afford it period. That in turn will cut down on the pollution because a part of the population can't afford to own a car anymore. That and by not owning a car there will be less congestion on the roads, less chances of accidents which means insurance rates go down. The government will have to invest in a modern day public transportation system for people to get to work. All of these are plusses in my book.

Considering the State I live in where the good ole democrat bleeding heart liberal governor proposed a plan to make the people that buy insurance pay for the others that can't. Now that's an idea. To me that is idiotic you want the problem of people driving around uninsured to go away so you give them free insurance? WTF!

I'm all for making driving more expensive. I also wanna add one more. Wan't tax help raise the fees for obtaining a license dramatically and used that money to fund these stupid everyone deserves an equal share b.u.l.l. s.h.i.t.. programs. Some people go without sometimes. Tough ****! We keep protecting everyone and helping everybody there is no thinning of the herd anymore and we are gonna run out of our basic staples of survival all because the needs of the few mattered more than the needs of the many.

You want cheap gas???

The supplies of energy seem to stay fairly constant.

We have more cars every year.

We have more homes every year.

We have more businesses every year.

GDP goes up every year, yes even under President Bush.

We won't allow drilling of new oil fields. No additional domestic oil, sorry.

President Clinton put our largest supplies of low sulfer coal into National Monuments and off limits. The electric power plants will just have to run on natural gas and oil, sorry.

Nobody wants a new refinery in their back yard. I guess we will just have to live on a fixed amount of gas and refined oil products, sorry.

Nobody wants a new nuke plant anywhere near them. And you better not store the old used rods anywhere either. These old nuke plants are aging and will start to go off line. Then it will be electric from natural gas and oil, see above, sorry.

The answer is conservation!! Just listen to the master. Didn't Senator Kerry say he would have us energy independent by 2010? The answer is the Kyoto Proticols. Roll back our energy usage to the 1990 levels.

That's right. Stop building America and everything will be OK.

And I said I was sorry, so it should now be all OK.

Welp, Ive been ranting on this forever, on this board , at car shows, to young ricers. We are paying the price for liberal policies and an asleep populace. One good gov action was CAFE fuel economy standards. Hi gas prices were hedged off for the last 20 years because cars are vastly efficient compared to the old ones. We drove more than double but used a tad less fuel. But hey, was that gov tinkering such a good thing? Maybe not, as everyone lately has decided to be "rugged induvidulist" and drive sport flukes that arent subject to the tighter emission/mileage standards.
Now , trucks are selling more than ever-WHY!!!!! Out of control immigration will cause ever burgeoning demands on fuel. 350 million by year 2050. As well as China's demand.
A true reasoning party would denigrate such population growth. The old Democratic party did. Not the new Socialist Dem party.

Who controls the media wins. Every snippet you see or hear referring to the gas prices has some common moron saying, "I dont think its fair, the oil companies are screwing us". But we never hear the real story of how the smaller refineries were run out of business by EPA. This has caused a true monopoly (as opposed to an oligopoly , which was bad enough) and the oil comps may well be enjoying it. Ironic. Another bad result of gov intervention.

Remember guys, the Tier 2 clean air standards will come online in 2005, so that will require more designer fuels for more areas. And diesel will go up. How Gdamn clean must the air be? The 1st clean air act was needed-but alas, once a bureucracy is started, all bets are off of stopping its behemoth momentum.
As in my sig-the air is the cleanest its been in 30 years. The press has people believing the opposite!

Hey Sinister v6, why dont you call the media about the fuel release? Oh yea, you like working!

Did somebody mention air polution? What air pollution is that....? Glad you mentioned no new refineries is caused by EPA regulations and beauracracy. Those pencil pushers want to keep they're do-nothing jobs to. Maybe the government should hire a few million more non-producing drones.

I believe CAFE standards are largely a sham. If you look at same sized vehicles mileage has not changed much since the early 1990s. Lisa drives a 93 Regal with the 3.1 Chevy V6. This car gets high 20s in everyday driving and low to mid 30s on a trip. If you look at a similar car built today, there isn't much change. The greatest changes in fuel economy came with the wholesale change over to fuel injection. Any increases after that point have been marginal.

The change has been just forcing the public to buy smaller lighter cars.

But that comes at a huge tradeoff for personal safety. So the next step is to make it UnAmerican to drive a larger safer vehicle because you put others at risk in an accident.

As I stated let it continue. Just think if you could keep 7 million cars off the roads and what that will do to the enviornment and profits of the oil barons :D

If the prices drop a bit(not likely) great, but then you say they'll go back to driving and the prices will go back up. That's when you come down with a $2000 registration fee to reregister your car after you haven't had to use it in a quite a while :D I know it's a pipe dream, but in theory it could work. As I said the needs of the few have mattered more than the needs of the many for quite a long time now and frankly I'm damn tired of it.

100 years ago if you didn't provide for your family guess what They F.u.c.k.i.n.g. Died. This country has gotten away from the survival of the fittest mentality. Also it has given up on the manifest destiny ideal as well(I know originally it only had to do with conquering the land from shore to shore).

Absorb Mexico(s.h.i.t. they're already here) use their resources to grow a stronger country. Grab Canada(they won't fight) and let's face it all they are are Americans with funny accents :D . Puerto Rico? Become a state and be taxed like everyone else or we take everything back we gave you and you live like the Cubans do. I tell you we are like the big Mommie dog with 9 puppies to feed and only 8 teets to feed them with. When will it stop?

Rome fell because they grew so large they couldn't support itself any longer. Their borders were limitless and allowed many attacks from many sides. Only way for the US to not become Rome II is to not make the same mistakes. Alas those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it(anyone else see a trend)

Hell yea, no borders , no country. Were already polarized 50%repub vs 50%Dem. Notice how angry we all seem to be-everythings a pain in the ass because there are too many gdamn people. And the middle class has no say as they watch everthing cost more and quality of life goes down. The border jumpers have more political clout as swing votors than we do. Say goodbye to the prosperous, quiet, Norman Rockwell type world of yonder. Yes Trading T/A, were growing and in a differing way than in the past. We now have a different less cohesive culture that will consume more than it produces. The ever growing liberal policies will consume this country from within.
Gas prices will only be a piece of the chaos.
Negative rant-why yes. True, why yes.

ThikStik it is not that bad

The middle class still has the most clout. It is the Republican Party. Everytime they make you start to doubt, take a look at this map:

http://www.sweetliberty.org/images/mandatemap.jpg

The areas in red are the areas with the most in common with each other. The areas in the blue are the areas made up with people who have the least in common with each other. The biggest thing the areas of the blue have in common is a large portion of them depend on tax dollars to survive.

whats wrong w/ trees? you anti air?

The problem with trees is they give you splinters when you stroke them. So that hugging and physical relationship stuff is not such a good idea.

Yea Silver, now were still in the red, but immigration/birthrates will cause more of those blue areas. Voting predictions by ethnicity are very reliable. Certain groups of one race in the US vote 98% Dumocrat. Those who traditionally vote Repub will be outnumbered in years to come. Not to say the new face of America wont have good judgment-but propensities are predictable. Like how the depression era folks are so thrifty with money/posessions and the younger generation is reckless financially. And in many cases you see Grandma raising these losers kids. Nothings a sure thing-We'll certainly know in 20-50 years. I sure do realize that Im alone in the disdain for population growth. I can admit selfishness, and know that with growth will come a reduction in quality of life/standard of living.
Peecesout, sorry to hijack thread.

I'm a firm believer in birth limitations. When my family came here in the early 1900's they had nothing and couldn't get jobs. They were treated like garbage. So what did they do. OH! had 5 kids worked 3 jobs to get ahead. The new wave of immigrants are still treated like garbage(for the most part) and do nothing to pull themselves into a better way of life. It's not just immigrants though, I have no need for the lazy and unambitious.

Everyone has probs. My old man split when I was young. My Mom did whatever she needed to do to raise two kids. Welfare was not available and prolly wouldn't be accepted in my family anyway.

If I lost my job tomorrow you bet your a.s.s. I'd be working double shifts at wendy's or another fast food place in order to make it.

It's the democrats you can thank for federal income tax and welfare and every other program to benefit everyone else but the people who pay to have these programs. I'm am so frickin tired of paying for people it's not even funny anymore. I'd rather have my $400 dollar mid year refund from the government than to have to pay $400 extra to them cause there is a new group that needs something.

Can anyone from California shed light on this? I heard they had a plan going that would pay people who were being subsidized to relocate to another state to find work.It was on Dateline a while back. I know it is just diverting a problem to another area, but it brings up my point that Democrats wanna help everyone. Either make it or you won't survive. I can guarentee that when this country collapses I will be able to protect my interests. What happens when there is no government to feed and clothe these animals(not all are animals I know) they're gonna turn to force to try to take what they need and then you'll have the tree hugging help all, everyone deserves their share bleeding heart liberals singing a different tune. They will be running full force to the closest Republican's house(cause you know Republicans are all gun loving maniacs  ) for protection. I for one will capture them and feed them to these people to bring them under control :D

I am for a women's right of choice, term limits and accountability of our elected officials! I am not for welfare, unemployment, federal campaign assistance. I am all for throwing out the seperation of church and state. Fukem, tax those pedophiles. I am all for mandatory military service by all young men for two years starting after their highschool graduation. I am all for making THC legal and taxing that too! I am for lowering the legal age to drink to 18. And prolly alot more you guys would care not to hear about.

Hell Yea Trading t/a,
You sound basically as me, wanting to be free of Gov. I especiallly agree about thc, womens rights. I always said, its weird that liquor is legal and smoke isnt.
And regarding Dems, you may mean that they want control over everyone-it just looks like they want to help everbody. Amazing that people are willing to give so much of their pay away so the gov can spend it. That the small common man can still vote Dem. is quite a lesson in how good these people are at spin. And the new equation , If Dems win, will cause awesome financial problems. Since there are more gov programs ever for ever more immigrants who's progeny didnt contribute anything to this country, that means there is a generation that is simply taking. And of course, more Americans than ever are getting entitlements. Basically, rampant immigration/illegitamacy are the big strains on this country. Arent I just a meany! Yea. but I still pay for programs I never got to vote for, so who's the real meany. The gov.
SEAL THE DAMN BORDERS! I'm too old to learn espanol.

To borrow a line from my great grandparents when asked why they weren't teaching the children gaelic anymore"You live in America so we are gonna speak English".

Just think of the money that could be saved by not having the license exams in 80 different languages. 100-150 yrs ago there was no such thing as a politician. You were a farmer, blacksmith, tailor, laboroer, etc. You did you turn in office and went back to your occupation. This government was designed to have input from different people evolving with each new representative. Now you go to school to hide out in the job cause you don't wanna work.

Call me crazy, but I don't have a problem with the price of gasoline. I'm paying 1.65/gallon for regular unleaded, which is about 1/3 of what several European countries are paying. You want to talk about a sham, let's talk about taxes and insurance. Even if I was paying $2 or more per gallon, it would still be just a drop in the bucket compared to what I pay the gubment and insurance scammers. There's not a lot I can do, short of breaking the law, about taxes or insurance. But I can sure shop around for cheap gas, and choose what and how I drive.

PS-Most people I see complaining about gas prices are filling one of their 2 SUV's while their economy car is sitting in their driveway gathering dust.

Agree completely. Gas prices suck, but I drive an Accord for a daily driver and fill up every 10 days or so. The gas guzzlers (GN and 67 Chevelle) are driven only for fun. Doesn't affect me much.

My Gremlin gets better mileage than my 87 3.0 fwd Calais, and the AC is way colder-problem is, im going broke insuring them and the toys.

This gas thing tho-you can see how other ponderings and topics have arisin in a thread about gas. It is revealing that gov policy and a changing nation are somewhat to blame for the rising $. But other things less obvious are getting worse slowly , little by little and for the same reasons. And they affect quality of life like gas $. Housing costs are going up. While neighborhoods become worse and more congested. Music/entertainment is dissaffected and angry. We sit in traffic longer. Medical costs are up. The rich are getting richer , and the middle class is worked to death-and still voting more of their money away from themselves by voting Dumocrat!!! UFB.

As for what *I* plan to do: vote for someone that would be for being self reliant. Im all for drilling in Alaska - they are too.

The sad part is that both The republicans and democrats are both messed up and not telling the truth.

Alaska has what they term heavy crude oil not light or sweet crude oil. What that means is that none of it can be burned in the current cars. And will not lessen the price or dependance on oil.
Nor lower gas prices.

Heavy has too much sulfer.

The democrats don't want to mention it because they might get a backlash to remove cat convertors and emission controls.

The republicans don't want to tell you about it because it would shoot the whole we need to drill in alaska and national refuges down.

Do you like youre fuel injection what about overdrive in all the cars.
If not for clean air acts you wouldn't have any of these!

But now I agree that they are going overboard and putting some very silly things in them!

Bush tells you that he wants to lessen dependance and then puts out incentives to buy the biggest suv's.

Lets face facts both partys lie.

And I personally wish another party would step up with a worthy runner that is more aligned to the needs and truth so we could get this country straighted out!!!

Also one more thing I want everyone to check gas prices 1 month before the election to see which way they have went.

If they have dropped alot then It shows us that Bush is in bed with the saudi's.And is never going to do anything about the price of oil.

If it goes noticably Higher they they want him out.

Time will tell.
