I must admit I am really feeling the blue background with red needle. Very nice look. I think most VW's have them.
Learn how to turn it around and make it bigger and then post again:)

I will give it a shot with a real camera and not my cell phone turned sideways while driving. ;) I'll post a nice nightime pic.

I just took the idiot light sending unit out and went to home depot and matched up fittings and reinstalled it. Who needs the idiot light anyway(well maybe I do but thats a different issue alltogether)

Apparently if your fuel pump relay fails, there is an alternate path for power to pass through the oil pressure idiot light sending unit to the fuel pump so you don't get stranded. I read that on turbobuick.com recently. I'm sure someone will correct me if I didn't word that correctly. I was wondering, though, if that were to happen, how would you know that your fuel pump relay has failed?

Good question, I had no idea that was how the system worked. I would be very interested in hearing more about that. Anyone please enlighten me if you know about this:confused:
I would have to do some trouble shooting in the field and if that failed:eek:, there is always my AAA plus membership to fall back on ;) (used and abused annually:D)

Isnt there a hookup for the pump in emergency situations behind the alternator, isn't it the grey clip thingy?

you get what you pay for

I have owned these gauges before and I also bought thwm because the were cheaper then the rest and looked great. Well once installed I realized why they were so cheap. When I opened the box I noticed that the one ring was chipped but I figured I could hide it so I installed them anyway. Once I started the car up it read sixty pounds of oil pressure. I then droveit around the block and once the motor warmed up I had about a pound of pressure at idle. I shut it off and coasted it back to my shop and tested it with a hand held gauge and had over thirty pounds. Three sensors and another gauge later, glow shift said it was my motor going bad even though I could prove it wasnt. On top of all that the tach I bought was to slow for me to actually use. I would shift and it would climb in RPM's for about a sec after the shift. Thats why I have given them the name Glow**** gauges.

Looks like I found the answer. You were close....this is from here

Factory Fuel Pump Relay

Contrary to popular belief, the factory relay does not shut down the engine if the oil pressure drops, or is lost. The factory relay is backed up by the factory oil pressure switch which has two functions. First, the switch turns on the oil pressure idiot light if the oil pressure falls below 4 psi.

Secondly, the factory oil pressure switch completes the circuit to the fuel pump when the oil pressure rises above 4# as a back up in case the factory fuel pressure relay fails. Normally, the ecm signals the relay to start the pump and run it for about two seconds when the key is switched to "Run", then it cuts off if the engine is not started. If the relay fails, there would be no fuel delivery from the pump unless there was a back up circuit. This is the second function of the oil pressure switch. Even if the relay fails and one cranks the engine, the fuel pump will be turned on when the oil pressure reaches 4 psi during cranking. One of the signs of a factory relay failure is delayed engine start when the engine is cranked as it gets no fuel until oil pressure is above 4 psi.

Now, if the factory relay has failed and the engine suddenly loses oil pressure to below 4 psi, then the voltage to the pump would be cut at this point and the engine would stop...that is the only time.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion;)
