I recently replaced my pinion yoke and found that the new seal leaked. Talked to Tom's differential and they instructed me to remove the spring on the inside of the seal. Twisting the spring (counterclockwise at the point it joins) will unlock it and the female end can now be cut to shorten it which will increase the tension once the two ends are rejoined. This procedure should also work for the front non rope timing chain seal.
