Got my car back today from Lou. Took the car in because of a transmission issue (freak little part broke). While it was there I asked Lou to look in to my oil pressure issue (under 10psi hot idle). He tore in to it and found this:

Hammered main bearings. Old motor was toast, i'm glad I had Lou take a look at it. Lucky for me Lou had a motor that he built that was looking for a car. It's a simple mutton motor, no fancy billet stroker since I was on a budget. .030 over forged pistons, 214/214 flat tappet cam, ported heads, etc.

The motor runs great and pulls hard, the transmission shifts great too. Lou's attention to detail is outstanding, he didn't want to let the car go until he was satisfied with the results. I love seeing 20psi hot oil pressure at idle :)

So what was the final cost? Interest in may be doing some "freshening up" considering the Wife's Benz is now .10 faster that me!

Don't want to really talk cost, Lou and I worked out a deal. I will say this. I could have probably gotten a motor cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

When a 25 year old car comes in with an engine problem. There usually are other problems unrelated to the engine job that could affect the outcome if not dealt with. Paying attention to detail is important to insure the job. Chris's timing was good because I had a nice engine in stock that I built for someone else that cancelled & was able to give him a little better deal. Being a loyal customer with a good sense of tuning a fair mechanic himself & someone I can work with also helped. As far as the cost that depends on budget & what the person's needs are. Every job is a little different.

Got a call from Lou yesterday, he was tearing down the old motor. Not only were the bearings shot, it had a blown head gasket, and he said something about needing a hammer to get the cam out. I am really surprised it even ran when it went down to him!
