... and just wanted to see how my readings compare.

Sitting idling in garage: On first crankup (cold), my O2's start out "too rich", then start showing readings around 10:1, gradually creeping up to 13.5:1. After it goes closed loop, the readings bounce from 13.4:1 to 14.4:1. When I turned on the A/C, the readings jumped up to (average) around 15.8:1. When I hit my alky "test" button, the meter dropped to 9.5:1, then recovered to over 18:1 for about 12 seconds.

First drive-around and pass: (No alky, 18# boost) I'm seeing the ratio *try* to stay around 14.7:1, but whenever I give it any throttle, it drops to around 10:1 or so. On the "pass", whenever I tromped it, the ratio went straight to 10:1, then bounced around a little at 10.5:1. On decel, it jumps up to 22:1, then recovers (after a few bounces) to 14.7:1.

Do you think the 10:1 on accel is causing the black smoke from the tailpipe? Should I get the chip burned for a higher ratio, like 11.5 or 12.0?

TIA!

Uhh, yeah, 10:1 will put black smoke out the pipe :-). May even give some rich knock just after a wot 2-3 shift; if not, just a little richer will do it. When you say "give it throttle", I'm assuming you see a rich spike for .5-2 sec or so, then it goes back to about 14.7ish so long as you don't mash far enough to get pe mode and then hold your foot steady after mashing? That's the AE, acceleration enrichment, and your chip may have toooo much. Anyway, you need to either crank up the boost or cut your fuel. You can do a little of that by dropping your fuel pressure 3-5 psi just to see the effect, but depending on how close you already are to the boost you want to run you will most likely need some chip work.

Thanks Carl,

I've got Razor's alky kit up and running, but wanted to do some "pre-alky" base-lining. My dip "recovery" is more like 5 secs. I had already made many attempts to up the boost with and without propane, but 18# was my limit. At least now (with alky) I'm seeing 22# without knock. I'd still like to get a handle on this rich tip in. I made a 210 mile round trip last month and made a point of staying out of boost only to get 18.4 mpg's ("normal" driving for me is more like 11.5 - 12 mpg's) but feel it should be higher. If my chip is hitting PE regularly under normal driving conditions, how would I request a change?
