You need to be careful with recalled chargers, too.

A former Power Wheel modder in Houston burned his house down when the charger flipped out and exploded the battery (scooter AGM battery).

It's always a little shaky practice when you charge two separate 12 volt batteries in series. If one battery is dead and the other fully charged, the charger could get confused and overcharge to the point of meltdown.

The recall says you can contact the manufacturer for a free replacement. That's still an option right?

I had a teeny tiny battery in a toy helicopter explode in my house. I had just charged it. It was probably smaller than my thumb but it go so hot that it exploded flaming helicopter parts all over the room (yes, it was an indoor toy). Everywhere a part landed started a small fire. I got paid $4,000 by the insurance company and it cost every penny of it to repair the damage. Luckily no one got hurt and since I was using it at the time I could put the fire out quickly. Had I left it alone charging in the basement it would've burned the house down.
