I'm looking into buying a Grand National as a semi DD. It like to take it to the track now and then and plan for mid 12 second performance.

What year would be the best to purchase? Also, what mods would be required to meet my goals. My budget after the purchase is around $3K.

Thank you in advance.

86 or 87. As long as its intercold. The only mods I would recommend are the hot wire kit, bigger injecetors and a chip upgrade and 3" down pipe. Also if you get an 86 and get classic plates, depending what your laws are, take the cat off and K&N air filter.A good set of street slicks are always handy. That gets you in the mid 12s if the temps. arent that bad were you are. I know a guy who wont bull**** you. you tell him what you want to do and he tells you what you need. His name is Jay 724-925-2274. He'll get you were you want and at your budget. Good luck!

Assuming an otherwise stock setup, GNgirl is accurate. 340 pump with hotwire and downpipe are pretty much universal changes. Also a 2 1/2" dual exhaust, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a scanmaster would also be goos first steps. Before getting into injector/chip combos you should do 2 things first: get the car thoroughly tuned and plan aahead for what you may do down the road as budget allows (larger turbo, alky, intercooler upgrade, whatever). If the site is back up and running the"recipies: section from gnttype.org can be a valuable resource. These cars ran low-mid 14's dead stock, so to shave 2 seconds or so off that won't take too much with no effect on driveability.
