Do family's really behave that way. All I remember growing up in N.Y. was getting my ass kicked for misbehaving. My father could drive a car with a stick shift one handed & smack me around with his other while I was in the back seat.

And all along I thought that the Dr. had dropped you on your head.

Even my Mother could do that to my brother and me in 50's Studebakers my Dad would buy for $25 as a second car and drive till they dropped and go buy another.

Yes, the good old days. Today our parents would be jailed for child abuse .

Worse yet was when, on the way to church, mom turned around and looked at you, spit on her kerchief (with her 9AM cigarette and booze saliva) and said " oohhhh, you have a milk moustache, lean forward so mommy can clean that up" ............

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

And yes, I am damaged goods..................

That's "stupid" to you, sir.

I'm silly like that.
Guy, stupid is only handed out on certain occasions when situations call for, Today you are just simply silly or perhaps only 1/2 stupid. Now should you blow it at the track tomorrow, Leave before the lights come down or do another of your famous reverse burnouts. It's back to full stupid again. lol

I'll be sure to post an update........

I can say with honesty that I come from a pretty good and close family.
Dad definitely used to take the belt to my butt when I needed alignments every couple days, and mom woudn't hesitate to give me five across the lips when I pissed her off, but they never left any doubt in my mind that they loved me.

They are quite conservative and very Christian. Dad was the chairman of the western district for the Evangelical free Church.

I did end up rebelling on their rules and rejecting "their" faith for several years...starting at about 13...eventually got into drug use and alchohol abuse, got arrested a couple times and really put them through the ringer. I'm not sure why, but for a few years, I tried to make them feel like I hated them.
Eventually I came to my senses, called them up in California from a pay phone in Tennesee and apologized and talked for about 2 hrs.....made amends for the way I treated them for doing nothing more than showing me love.

The thing I can say about my parents is that they are the most real people you could ever meet. They don't pretend to be anything but who and what they are. They live Christ centered lives....they don't pass judgment on others, don't descriminate... and are always there to help someone up off the ground.

While I'm still very human...they eventually showed me the way back to Christ and I have to look no further than them for some of the finest examples of how people should live and treat each other...
Unconditional love and friendship....that's what they offer to anyone who wants it.
They won't thump you on the head with their Bible, or try to save a soul that does not want to be saved...but they won't turn their back on anyone, and through nothing more than example, they will show anyone what it means to be saved.

Now...I do still abuse the alky...but in a whole different way.:D
That's Papa Lou's fault...;)

Chicken thanks for sharing that. Although I never used drugs but I sure partied & gave alcohol a bad name in my youth. What ever sins you are guilty of I assure you I would make you blush. It was better to have gone through that stage in our lives than to do it later where it would really impact your family's lives. When the window was busted out in my vette & broken into the other day I just had to suck it up & consider it payback for some of my past indiscretions. My Father once told me when I grew up he wished a child on me like I was. That convinced me to never have any kids. That was a horrible thing to wish on someone.

I cannot and will not begin to tell you guys just how mussed up my teen years were and the self destructive habits that resulted from the turmoil.

My comment about "damaged goods" wasn't all in jest.

Somehow, during all of the craziness I was able to forge a few strong frienships with a some very, very good people. Those friendships proved to be invaluable in my adult life.

I won't get into specifics, but I became the horrible someone I never dreamed I could become and ended up hurting everyone who loved and/or cared for me.

The road back has been a rough, hard road, and I humbly thank those who stuck by me and had faith in the goodness they knew was in me.

I am truly blessed.

I also went 10.79 today with zero reverse burnouts! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I did get booted for going too fast though.................... again.....;)
