GTI goes down

Last night i was out at the local street races for the first time since I got my car back on the road. I got there at about 9:30 and there were a few cars there, nothing big. There was a truck that was doing WOT blasts in the parking lot and creating a scene so i went after him to quiet him down a bit. I caught up to him down the road and found out the truck had a 5.0 with nitrous, and unknown mods. We pulled up the light, and every time a cross light moved, he would jump out about a car. I'm holding the brake for all it's worth against the motor, and the light finally goes green for us and I instantly catch right up to him and am easily passing him. Right then, I heard a loud BANG! BANG! I look back and see his truck pretty much stopped in the middle of the road. When he limped the truck back in, it was making some awfully funny noises and it turned out he blew up the rear end, zoinks!. A while later I went up and talked to a few guys in a VW's. This one kid i talked to had a silver GTI Golf that was lowered, and I was told it intake, exhaust, plus a chip. I asked him if he wanted to run. He asked me against what, and i just told him "my buick over there" He sorta smiled at my like, are you serious? and said "sure" He pulls outta the parking lot burning tires, the whole deal, while I just slooowly drive down the road to the light. A friend of mine told me the VW crowd was heard saying "man that car is slooooow!" Once we got lined up at the light, i'm holding unknown boost against the brake getting ready to launch on him and show him what my buick can do. The Light turned green and i left him very quickly. I was kind enough to let off at about 60 or so, leaving the damage done at 5 lengths and growing. I talked to the kid after words, shook his hand, etc, and he was shocked. His friends came over and said "what happened yo?!?!" He just replied, "nothing....i just got smoked!" Man, I love this car! Now if i can only fix this missing problem i've got...

good kill, but as far as I am concerned, you might as well have been racing an '85 Ford Escort! Why don't you aim your sights a little higher, atleast a 5.0 or something. Our cars have too much class to be racing against ricer VW's and crap like that. Although, sometimes they CAN have big mouths..........

yeah I agree i could have found a better match, but these kids had no idea what i was driving, and needed to be educated. There was an 88 GT there which sounded quite healthy. He wanted to run me soooooo bad, so he told me he had just an exhaust, filter and chip. (what i tell everyone else) I asked to see under his hood, and in about 30 seconds i spotted trick flow heads, intake, headers throttle body, etc. He fessed up to having a built 302 and wouldn't even tell me the specs on the cam! I decided that was prob a bit more than i was willing to take on that night, and later found out that that car supposedly runs 11's. Maybe another time i'll get to see what it's really got.

Throw some good gas in there and turn up the juice to say....23-24psi, show up with slicks on and show that buttstang who's boss.

Yeah, in a week or two, whenever i can get the money for the SMC alchy kit, i plan on trying to run 23ish psi maybe more, maybe less, whatever i can get away with. Then i'll see what i can run up against.
