While driving to the house today I startled a red tailed hawk and got a pic of it. I had the camera in the car and got 2 pics. One of them was as it was going down and catching a rodent of some sort. It may not be that cool but the fact that I was less than 50 feet away and got to actually catch it in the act of hunting was really cool.

We have a road that I drive down periodically here in Roseville California, and it is miles of fields. There are alot of Redtailed hawks along this stretch, and it is amazing to watch them hunt! When they see something and drop from the sky, I swear they are slamming the ground! Whatever they are catching (usually field mice) I bet they don't even know what happened because those hawks hit them fast and hard!

Cool pics! Charlie, what is that behind the barbed wire fence? Is that what you guys call a "field" or "pasture"? ;) Not many of those down here in San Diego area. :)

It's a hay field Squid. A pasture is used to allow animals to graze. I've had this one around here for a while and I even have a road runner that goes through my front yard on a regular basis but I have yet to get a pic of him. One of these days I will though.

Thats cool. We have lots of them around here. We see them daily but rarely do you get to see one hit the dirt and never when you have a camera. Nice catch.

A male and female eagle would sit on a transmission tower almost daily. One day the male took off kind of casual then like a lighting bolt flew down and nailed a rabbit. So fast if you blinked you would have missed it. Rabbit never had a chance.
