Some of you may already know this but Hagerty Auto accepts GNs as special interest vehicles. I asked for a quote when I dropped my 69 Mustang and they said 300 a year! Wow, I was paying almost 1100 a year now! FYI, I'm 24 and live in Florida.

James

Damn if there wasnt the rule where the principle driver had to have 5 years driving experience i would apply. Beats paying 2400 a year:rolleyes:

James maybe the Grundy $240 is for New Hampshire where you can only drive 7 months a year anyway :(
Can U say SALT! Dec to April

Or
My age 44:eek:

how much??

what type of coverage do you get for 300 bucks?? and what kind of restrictions are there. i drive my car almost everyday but i only work a few miles away. im payin geico a $hitload!

I called Hagerty last night for a quote. $311 w/ a $250 deductible and agreed value of $13k. Not sure of the limits. I'm in Pa, so there are certain coverages I am required to carry. I don't think it's too bad. I've heard nothing but good things about Hagerty.

Later,

Steve.

You can't even drive to work with that insurance.

If you drive your car forget about it.

Trip to Home Depot? I don't think so.... ;)

I can tell you the restrictions will be the same as the classic car insurance I had on my Mustang, but I can only tell you about Hagerty and not Grundy.

Anyways, the car is to be kept in a locked garage at night, but there are exceptions if you're a trip or going to a car show that require a stay away from home. I was told their are NO mileage restrictions. The only driving restriction is that you cannot drive it to work. It's almost as if their definition of everyday driver is the car you drive to work. Otherwise, you can go about anywhere you want. Their claims department is excellent. I had a buddy that dropped his hood during removal and it messed up the paint, hood, and fender. Hagerty covered it no questions asked. They do limit their medical at around 100k so some people do not like that.

That price also includes the Hagerty Protection Network which is basically roadside assistance. They provide flatbed trucks too which is nice. I had to use it once and they were more than helpful and they paid for the towing since it was under 50 dollars.

Additionally, you must already have insurance for at least one car for each person in the household of driving age. That is, you can't claim your GN is not your daily drive if you only have one other car for you and your wife. Besides that, I can't think of anything else...

I had a claim with Hagerty once a few years ago that was taken care of NO PROBLEM.
Any work under 3k they don't need an adjuster to see it. Only 3k & above damage will adjuster kick in.

As for the daily driver it won't fly, But taking it to work then a cruise night from work seems ok.

Yes they will & can find out if you have daily drivers as your primary transportation.

Also don't be afraid to JOY RIDE. I was going to post office, gas, soccer, fast food pickup with my GN. Well now that the roads are pure white salt no more outings til spring :(

Neat info.

I've researched these companies in the past and the binders always have language about using the vehicle only for show, event, or club purposes. No trips to the mall, 7-11, home depot, etc...

Out of curiousity, when you made the (successful) claim were you using the vehicle for an approved purpose? Did they ask?

My fear would always be getting hit in a parking lot for one of the above locations and having that appear on the accident report. Coverage denied? Who knows, but it's too much risk for me.

I also had a Grundy rep tell me that the policy allowed me to do trips like the above, but when I read the policy it was very clear that this was not permitted.

Scott,
I was on vacation at summer place which has 1 car garage & tool shed on other side.
I was not used to the size of the stall & was backing my GTO to hit one of the cruise nights. I caught the side of my GTO on the right side of garage. Lucky for me the 70 GTO has a raised area along the fender. It scraped the paint off for about 14"

Anyway I called them ASAP & had my digital camera. took the photos & emailed them into phone rep.
Told them I would go home & hunt for a repair shop.
They wanted the copy of the estimate & the check came in like 5 days.

They didn't even want a new photo. I guess the check co signed by me to the shop was ok.

I had Haggerty years ago, switched to Grundy, cheaper and no mileage limitation like Haggerty's 1000/yr.

Maybe you should check again about Hagerty's mileage restrictions. I was told many times that there are no mileage restrictions. The vehicle just can't be driven to work. Trips to the store are okay.....

I've check on my 69 Mustang many times. I told them I like to do power tours. They said it was okay, but maybe they are talking out of both sides of their mouth or maybe they got rid of their mileage restrictions to compete with Grundy.

Just called Hagerty and tried 2 different phone reps for consistency. Their stories were consistent.

* The like to see not much more than 2,500 miles per year for vehicles such as ours, but this can be extended upwards for special trips (like a 600 mile one way trip to nationals) or circumstances;

* Cars must be kept in a locked garage;

* Each driver in the household must have another vehicle for regular use. The reps told me that this can be negotiated if one lives in a major metro area and walks, takes public transit, etc. to work.

* Permitted use: Both representatives were very clear on this. You can take her on trips, to events, to clubs, to dinner or the ice cream shop, but get dinged at home depot, the mall, the convenience store, or something else that suggests everyday use and you're going to have trouble. I specifically described my intended use to each "Not a daily driver, not to work, but occasionally used on weekends and nights for errands and visiting friends" and both said this did not fit their intended coverage. They said claims under such circumstances would be decided on a case-by-case basis, but that's too much risk for me.

* What is very nice that their agreed upon coverage is just that, and doesn't use actual cash value (depreciation) or an "up to" stated value policy. I had to go around and around with Allstate to get my current policy not to be set up to weasel me; Hagarty values are not setup to hose you!

Summary: Be careful! Read your policy carefully, and talk to your agent.

Hope this helps someone. Best,
Scott

If something happens all you have to say is you were taking to/from a repair shop. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.:D

As a long time classic car owner and professional restorer/ shop owner I have to say haggerty is a great company to deal with in everyway. Haggerty will not take on GN's when you first buy them. You must own the car for 1 year and if they see you did not get in trouble with it then they will step up and insure you. haggerty will NOT allow trips to the store, errands or driving the car as a daily driver, to work or as second car PERIOD. I have the policy in front of me and just quoted from it. They do allow unlimited mileage for club events, show and parades and pleasure driving. Trips going to a show are allowed but you better be able to back it up that you were going to a show. TRUST ME on that one. I was out of town at a show with one of my cars and had a little fender bender. I had to prove what we were doing. I also had a 1964 Corvettee stolen from a locked warehouse. They paid in full no deductable $ 22,000.00 and the car was about 1/2 way done. I like the way they do business and would never use anyone else. Just don't think you can take it anyplace you want to go anytime you want. The reason the rate is so low if that they cannot expose themselves to 100% use for that small amout of premium. Also most collectors take great car when driving and have a much lower loss ratio than other drivers using cars for daily use. Try expalning to the adjsuter that you went to pick up diapers at 7-11 with the car when it was totaled at 3 am. It won't be pretty.

Hope this clears it up.
