heres a brief history of the events that lead up to my current problem:

about a month ago, the car ran great... no problems. i pulled into a gas station to top off the tank, and when i was done pumping, i fired the car up and all of a sudden it ran like crap. it was hesitating all throughout the rpm range. so i limped it home, did a quick fuel pressure test and found it to be below where it should be

i suspected a fuel pump, replaced it with a GM SyTy pump, went to fire it up and now it wont start. the car cranks, and it sounds like the pump is priming when you turn the key to the "on" position, but im getting 0 fuel pressure at the rail

any suggestions?

Did you hook up the fuel lines correctly when replacing the pump? It's also possible that some gunk got clogged up in the fuel sock or the filter, check the filter out first.

as far as i know i did. each line had a different kind of clamp on it, and i remember putting them back on in the order that i pulled them off

there were 3 lines going to the pump... the biggest one (probably the fuel feed line) had a dual clamp on it and it was the line closest to the front of the car. the middle line had a single clamp on it (i assume this was the return line). and the final line had a compression fit clamp on it (like the factory clamps on our rad hoses) and i assumed this hose was for emmissions hookup

well, im off to drop the tank again... damn i hate to do the same job twice, but i gotta know FOR SURE that everything under there is where it should be. if everything is in fact good, ill try a fuel filter, but i wont be able to get one til tomorrow. by now everythings closed due to Labor Day

holy ****... this one has to go under "the dumbest things ive ever done" list

so i drop the tank... ok all the lines and connections are good. so i disconnect the main fuel line. as im twisting it off, gas starts to escape. "hmm", i think, "looks like the pump was working cause im getting pressurized gas out of this line"

well low and behold when i removed the rubber line completely from the metal line i noticed a rubber plug i installed in the metal line to keep the gas from leaking out the first time i did the job!! my dumb ass had forgotten to remove it before i reconnected the lines!

so anyway, now im off to get the job done right the 2nd time :D
