Hello,

I am new to grand national. I have been around a few turbo cars (currently own and operate a 86 SVO). I am looking to get a turbo charged gm product and get rid of the stang.

I am going to be honest at first I was considering a syclone or typhoon, but from my understanding they dont have the best of luck holding up to abuse. (They seem to break relatively easy and quickly).

The only other option is either a Grand National, t-type or a Turbo Trans Am. (I'm only 20 and the trans am would be rather high on my insurance). I like the appearance of the Grand National being that it is all black and looks like a sleeper.

The car isn't going to be driven daily, and I would prefer to modify it.

The main question I have is how easy is it to modify a GN to be a high 12-low 13 second car on pump gas. Expensive/Inexpensive.

One thing to consider is that I am located in Southern Alabama (High Humidity and Air Temperatures).

I really appreciate any and all responses,
Sean

North Alabama here

If the car is in good mechanical shape then it will be no problem. I take it that the car is bone stock.

Put you a good fuel pump in it like a walbro 340 along with a hot wire kit. Get you a good pump gas chip for stock injectors. I like Bob Bailey chips available at Full Throttle Speed or Ramchargers. Do a good spring cleaning like you see on www.gnttype.org

Get some good tires like a drag radial or some ET Streets for some traction.

If the ignition is in good shape and the transmission works well then 12's are easy.

An adjustable boost acutator and adjustable fuel pressure regulator will help get you even further. A scan tool like a scanmaster will help you get the proper tune up for mid 12's.

What track will you run at?

Just something to consider.

Insurance on a TTA isnt that bad. (I am 24) You want to talk sleeper, its the TTA, that Big Black Buick gets noticed, your TTA is going to get over lookjed as a 305TPI.

A lot of people on this board will tell you that there are a lot of advantages to both. Really depends on what you want to do with the car.

The GN is a full frame vehicle, which means for drag racing you are a step ahead. But a few pounds ahead as well. Also, everyone here will tell you, a GN is not good in the corners unless you invest in the Chassis for cornering. NOw a well modified chassis is well capable of handeling .92g's (The GNX)

Benifits of the TTA, handels better out of the box. Has a couple of revisions to the Engine that ups power production a bit. So, its a tad bit faster out of the Box.

It really depends on what your looking to do with the car. If you want a cruiser that can tear it up in a straight line and get respect from most people on the street before a race... Go black.

If you want to hit the back country roads with lots of agression into the corners, have somehtign that looks more like a sports car than a muscle car, and want to do the straight line sometimes, go White.

Realy both are very capable cars and good platforms to build what you want. Both are very collectable, and both are very beautiful.

The choice is up to you. Though I am assuming your SVO to be a 5-speed, which means your driving experience will be slightly different and the 3.8 will produce a lot more low end torque than your 2.3L.

Just my $.02
