Hello anybody

I got a code 43 ESC Module. I replaced it today with a GM unit and still I get the same code. I installed a Trans + and Extender chip fixed all vaccum leaks and the code came up. I start the car it runs great but the service light comes on and when i rev the car up the scanmaster shows 13.4 knock instantly. at idle it shows 0 knock. I can't hear any knock but when I drive the car boost will only go to 14 psi it bucks and backfires I asume its because of the change in the timing with the code. Please help

Thanks

What are your O2 readings and CCs?

Code 43 is lean is it not? Other possible causes would be lack of fuel pressure or delivery

Code 43

I got the error from the scanmaster malfunction code reference sheet. Here are my scanmaster numbers.

O2 bouncing from 210-589
F.P. 40 with vaccum line on
AF-03
L8-32
Int-128
Blm-120
T.P.-42
Iac-15
cc-bouncing from 210-248

This is at idle with temp 190 deg.

odds are it's wiring somewhere, then maybe the knock sensor itself, then maybe the ESC module itself. I have a spare ESC if you want it. This module is located on the passenger side rail where some other relays are. HTH,

Code 43

I just changed the ESC module. I tapped on the knock sensor and the knock gage i have did not light any lights up. I guess that would be my problem?????

use a screwdriver/hammer/whatever and bang on something you know can take it while having someone watch the knock counts on the scantool. proper torque for them is 14lb/ft iirc. replace it if there's any doubt in your sensor.

code 43

I did the tap test and nothing. I'll replace the knock sensor. Thanks for you help.

Reading about your problem, I got curious and dragged out the GM Service Manual for our cars. There are pages covering this. If you can beg, borrow or steal one from someone it might be a help to diagnose this.

I am quoting this stuff from the manual. First it can be the ESC module, knock sensor, or the ECM. You changed the ESC but it could still be a bad ground at the ESC Module. A poor connection at terminal B7 at the ECM through CKT457 should be checked, and check the harness for any damage. And according to the manual, to check the knock sensor you need to have the engine running at 1500 RPM in park. "Vigorously tap engine block near knock sensor. Display should increase". That means it should show knock. Believe it or not it also says you could have a faulty MAF.

You really should try to get access to a manual so you can go through the steps properly. These kind of problems can drive you nuts. I've been there before so I hope you find it easily.

And I'm terrible at electrical problems, which is why I suggest you find a manual. But I thought this might give you a start. If you can get to one you need to go to the section called "Driveability and Emmisions - Fuel Injection (Port). In my manual it is Section 6E3 Chapter A3 pages 100 - 101. It might be different in a different version. Good Luck.

Code 43

I changed the knock sensor out and it did not clear the code. I brought the rpms to 1500 tapped on the intake and the block by the knock sensor and no lights changed on my knock gauge? This is driving me crazy!!!!!!! I start the car and the scanmaster shows 13.4 deg of knock at idle its zero as soon as i hit the gas it goes back up to 13.4????? The car sounds good.

I PMed you last night. Did you get it ok? I'm not always sure I get things sent right.
