It is black and has alot of little 6's around it. I thought it should say D5. What do you think? Should I buy a D5? It stalls around 2,200 before the tires break. Car is mainly stock. Thanks

Found these #'s today..

KV200HSL stamped into it. No stickers and the numbre 6 stamped around the ribs.. Thanks

Jason,
As you know, that torque converter isn't stock, but if you are getting 2200 rpms before it starts spinning the tires, that is what I used to be able to get with the stock D5. so it seems you are brake stalling the same.
My car now has a "6" converter in it and I can only get 16-1700 rpms out of it. I bought a rebuilt D5.
Hope that helps,
James

Hrmm

Sounds like a Kenne-Bell converter to me. Ck their cataloge. Bet that number comes up.

Something to remember here when it comes to aftermarket converters: Once a converter is cut open, it can be reworked in any number of ways including changing fin angles in the impeller and swapping stator assemblies.

Just because a 12" lock-up converter doesn't have D5 stamped on it, doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work in a turbo car. We build many, many high stall 12" converters here at TCI and true D5 units are few and far between.

To get around that problem, we tooled up on the high-stall, D5-style stator so that we could meet the sales demand without D5 cores. We take run-of-the-mill cores, rework the fin angles, replace the stator assemblies, put in a heavy-duty TCC assy., new hub, bearings, etc. and voila; a silk purse from a sows ear. :p
