I am thinking of upgrading my turbo and would like some suggestions. The combo is as follows.
rebuilt long block, stock heads with 100 pound springs, cam upgrade from postons,(not sure of specs) fuel system is done with 340 hot wired, adjustable reg, 55 pound injectors, 52 turbo, 911 converter with aboout a 3200 to 3400 stall, and a pres front mount on the way, with alky.
The car is a weekend type second car, and dont mind going big if it works with combo. I had a t64e on my last GN and really liked the power. I am thinking of a BB turbo in the 70 to 72 range and stepping up the injectors at a later date. Will the addition of the alky kit assist in the fuel needs equation?
Please share your experience and thoughts.

Dave:)

Call John Craig at Limit Engineering for a turbo and Julio aka Razor for an alky kit.

I would call or email both of them. I have dealt with both and thay are very helpfull and honest. They are not looking to just make $$$. They will tell you what they know and sell you the right set up. The biggest bang for the buck for me has been the PAC alky kit from Razor (Julio) just do a quick search and you'll see the light. Yes alky will help in the fuel requirement it is a fuel but it needs to be factored into the equation of fuel demand at ~twice the flow rate of gas.
I am going to have John Craig build me a TE-45a in the next couple of weeks. I have read and heard that this turbo is the best for a street strip car. Nothing but good comments on this turbo. I also like the name being a 45. That way when someone ask me what turbo I am running I can say a 45, not a 67 which may scare about 95% of them off from running for $$$$$$$.

Thanks for the input. I already have the alky kit installed and love it. 23 to 24 psi with no knock. The front mount is on the way and not installed yet. I was hoping someine with a bb turbo would chime in as well. I would really like to go bigger on the turbo now and grow into the fuel side as I slowly tune and turn up the boost.

I use the dual ball bearing GT70 Innovative with a 3200 stall Protorque converter.

Have 55's also.

Only run pump gas and alky. Hoping for a decent time at 25psi. boost with stock heads and cam.

Spools instantly and since I don't run race fuel and high boost the 55's are more than enough for now, according to direct scan anyway. :)

You might be able to run a Q trim, mines a P trim.

Maybe a single BB as well. Talk to Jack Cotton about ball bearing turbos, see what he says and recommends for your combo.

Daily driver absolutely no issues on the street with the combo and I use the stock wastegate for control with a BSTC.

4" air inlet and 3.5" LS1 MAF.

Hopefully some good track times end of April.

For the price I would go with a T70 or T72 from turbonetics if you want ball bearing. The ITS units are pricier, though they are great units also. They are both nice units and will spool quite fast. Also the PTE-70GTQ and the PTE-72GTQ and GTS are also nice units, and the new GT wheels are definitely making big power, plus they are much cheaper.

Good ideas!

I was expecting to see some conservative suggestions - I am so sorry I fell pray to the take it easy crowd. Go Big!

Please don't laugh

A 45 turbo which seem to be popping up everywhere.
Is it suited more for racing or can it be used for both.

Am building a motor soon for my Limited. Hope to have ported heads. Capped bottom. But am lost with turbos.

Want an easy 11.02 car.....Had a GN with a 49 same block work.
Went 12.18 in 97'. Can some one help? TIA.

Feel stupid. Can't get a handle on turbos

I spoke with John Craig today, and he suggested a TE45A for my car. He didnt seem big on the ball bearing turbos but thought the TE45A would fit my combo nicely, and be able to take me deep into the 10s.

The PTE-67GTQ is very nice, but the next step would be the GT-40 67trim. Basically the PTE-67GTQ, but with the new GT exhaust turbine.

Dave,

If you are wanting a BB, I would highly recommend our Turbonetics units. The spoolup will compliment your combo and easy 10's would be no problem if you have the correct upgrades to compliment it. I'm currently running a pre Nats special on turbos, all the big shaft turbos up to a 76P trim are $1479, regularly 1699.00. They come with polished comp housings, a 1 year warrenty and free shipping up to $30.00. If you want to hear more, give me a call at the shop.

I just want to thank everyone. WHo gave some input and not laugh.
Really helped. And the lists where super.

Thanks again. Robert.....
