When I start the car cold I get some lifter chatter for about 5 seconds after startup on my '99 Regal GS.

I just replaced the oil pan gasket and had to take out and reinstall the pickup tube. I used a new gasket and tightened the bolts properly with Locktite applied to the threads. Everything was fine for 2 days. Could the pick-up tube gasket have gone out and a slight air gap be causing this?

Another thing I did was use a PF-52 oil filter instead of the PF-47. I do this on the GN without incident, but could this be causing my problem? I am also using Castrol 10W-30. I usually use Mobil, but they were out.

I looked at the oil yesterday and the level is fine and it looks perfectly clean.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

i'd bet good money that its the fault of the filter. more specifically, the filters anti drainback valve. next time you buy a filter take it out of the box, wipe it off and blow into the center hole making a seal with your lips. yeah, sounds ridiculous but if you hear any air getting thru than you know the drainback valve is junk. fram filters are especially notorious for this. good luck, aaron

i had a 91' LeSabre that did the same thing everything i started it up for about a minute...it always did it, I never fixed it...150K miles still running strong:)
my brother has a 90 regal gs does the same thing not as bad, he's at 160K
it'll be fine,if you can live with the sound
