I went out to my GN today, only to have it not start. I turned the ignition, and my Scanmaster 2 turned on, started to sync up, displayed the software version, and then went blank. Upon turning the engine, nothing happened. The starter just spins the motor with no firing at all. Earlier this week, I had a problem with High 02 Voltage and High Idle, but I was told on the board that it was probably a vacuum leak. I tightened alll the vac hoses, and the problem went away. Now, no start. I would think it was the Crank sensor from my exprerience with my sister's Mustang, but the lack of data on the Scanmaster has me thinking computer. Could it be a bad Chip? Or even the computer? Somebody please, HELP!

Hey Shane, just went through a no start here recently and I know how it sucks. Mine turned out to be a loose wire on the ECM harness which either made it run like hell or not start. In your case I would make sure I've got fuel and spark. Then I would "jump" the aldl and see if it's giving any codes. These were the words of wisdom I recieved which helped me immensly with finding my problem.

First turn the key to the on position. Do not try to start. Does the SES light come on and blink one time. If not then you have an ECM issue. I would check the orange wire at the battery and make sure this is connected. I had thi happen once or twice on a couple of vehicles.

Thanks, I will have to try this. Here on base it's a long hike from the barracks to the GN but I'll go see and keep y'all posted. The ECM +12v wire sounds possible, I just had that off, it could have fallen off.

OK, so I did some tinkering on the GN today... and still no start. I checked the orange wire on the battery, and it was connected. I traced it all the way through the engine and I still had system voltage. Finally I took the connector off of the computer and checked the voltage there, both to ground and via the computer's ground, all of which left were system voltage. This means that the computer is getting voltage just fine. So I thought that it might be a chip problem. I replaced the street chip that was in it with a racing chip, but still no start.
The thing is, my scanmaster won't display ANYTHING, it's blank, and my SES Light is apparently burnt out, because it never even lights, even when I should be getting a Code 12.
I just can't figure this out. Everything on the web suggests using the Scanmaster as a tool, to read codes and such, but I can't do that. All indications are saying that I have no computer at all.
How do I check the computer and see if it went bad?
Please help me, everyone, this is my daily driver and I'm hurting.

Don't worry so much about the Scanmaster right now. Cars ran before they were available. Like Greg posted, go through the no-start procedure. Some quick checks can be pull a sparkplug wire off the top of the coilpack about 1/4" and have someone crank the car. See if spark jumps. If yes, that's good.

Then check for fuel. Push in on the schraeder valve at the end of the fuel rail and see if fuel squirts after the fuel pump primes. Then it's onto the injectors to see if they're pulsing. One of these things is probably not going to happen and that can lead you in the direction of the problem.

OK, I will do all of that tomorrow. I'm a technician by trade, and I guess that I'm troubleshooting like one. I figure if the Scanmaster is down, that means something electronic is wrong, like an indication.
Where can I get one of these Injector test lights that I read so much about?
Thanks again.

I ran a few checks today, and it seems that no fuel is getting to the fuel rail. So I got a new relay for the fule pump (JUst in case) and hooked that up. Still, no start. However, if I short the Fuel Pump lead to +12VDC the fuel pump will turn on, although the car will not start. It seems that the switching power supply for the relay isn't getting power. Where would it be getting power from, and how can I check that. Also, why wouldn't the car start when I shorted the fuel pump on?
Thanks again for all your help, everyone.
