I have a TE-44 turbo.ESP Race cylinder heads,ESP front mount intercooler, stock 3000 stall converter,009's inj.,Jay Carter street chip.I used to have a 60-1 turbo but i replaced it with th te-44.The 60-1 did not spool well at all.On the other hand the te-44 seems to spool better. The only thing Im not sure of, is that i have a turbonetics Racegate(Boost control inside the car) that is right near the crossover pipe closer to the drivers side.i was told by some experts that the further the Gate the worse lag my turbo will expierence.I don't like excess turbo lag especially for the street and i know that this turbo will help spool alot quicker with the right set up, which means getting rid of my old Turbonetics Racegate. Is the stock style with the where the turbo is where the actuator is right near the turbo or is a ATR setup the best for real quick spool up.I want to buy the most effective set up to get rid of the excess lag for my street driven GN.Hope you guys can help:cool:

Howdy,

I am speaking completely academically here having no experience with the set up yet but the wastegate won't open till it reachs its "cracking pressure" which will be a few psi before the rated pressure. The racegates placement will not affect the spool up but it will affect its ability to control the turbo at peak booste. The farther it is from the turbo the more lag you will see between when the wastegate begins to operate and when the turbo responds to the opening. Just my academic analysis of it.

Thanks,

So basically it is a fact. The further away from the Turbo a Racegate in my case is installed, which is near the middle of the crossover pipe the more lag the turbo will have???If that is the case and i block off my crossover and get rid of the Racegate, what would be a real nice set up to get rid of the excess lag.A Terry Houston Downpipe with high pressure actuator or a ATR setup???

Just wondering if anyone is using the ATR wastegate or any other set up that is closer to the turbo??

i run the atr ex ternal wastegate and a te-60 turbo my car spools just fine . you did not mention if you have a cat on the car if you do that could be your problem get rid of the cat and get instant spool with your combo

I have no Cat on the car so thats not the problem. The ATR set up one of the changes i want to make. Its between that and buying a Terry Houston Downpipe with a high pressure actuator.I have no scan tool and my car is not running well enough right now to figure out.I think it needs a fuel pump but it always seemed to run rich and the plugs always looked like new when i took them out with a little carbon or soot around the middle.I think tuning is my major problem with the spooling along with having my Racegate near the drivers side crossover pipe to far from my PTE-44 turbo.(I have heard the further the Turbo is from a wastegate or Racegate the slower the spooling??)
