Hi All

I have a starting problem with my 90 Toyota 4Runner (5 speed manual) and I need your help.

Problem (it will eventually start):

- turn on the ignition and I just hear one click and nothing else
- I turn on the BYPASS CLUTCH SWITCH, turn on the ignition and again, I just hear on click and nothing else. (I thought the switch might be faulty and not letting me start my truck)
- when I finally do get it started... it chugs like it is going to die before before it starts idling by itself. (I thought it might be my starter, and the chugging is the burning of the extra gas from my previous startup attempts.
- and then sometimes, it starts up normally without any hesitation.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I just do not want to take it to the dealership.

TIA... dave

Check them SPARK PLUGS and make sure them injestor are not leaking down when shut off. If you are not using platinum plug you might want to give it a try. also look over all ground wire and make sure connection are tight. good luck.

Hi steveX

Thanks for the suggestion. I had platinum plugs a few years back.... did not notice any difference so I put regular plugs in for my last emissions check.

thanks again... dave
