I have been using Microsoft Internet Explorer and a cable hookup. I can log on to a web page with out a problem. However if I am on a web page and click onto link to another site, I get into the linked site but get booted off the original site running in the background. So when I want to return and hit the"X" on the link I am now off the internet. I have been trying to work with the Internet security options with out any luck and might have cause more problems for myself.

Thats weird, what version of Ie and what os? When you say you "get booted off the original site" does that browser window physically dissapear? I would probably run a windows update first and see if that helps. If you have recently installed a firewall or something, it could be affecting some things, buts thats strange stuff. Be sure your Ie security settings are medium-low.

The browser window disapears and I return back to the page with the icons. I have not installed a firewall but was thinking that a router with a firewall might be in order. I am running Windows XP and will download the updates from Microsoft.
Thanks,
Jeff
